Midwestern State v Western New Mexico: Saturday, September 30th 7 PM
Wichita Falls, TX

The Mustangs of Midwestern State head back on to the field for the first time after the tragic loss of their beloved teammate, Robert Grays.

The game of the Mustangs will commence in the Falls this year. I am imagining that there is a lot of emotion for Midwestern heading into this week after a bye week and their game against Kingsville, that we all remember. Midwestern continues to do what they do best, pound the football (#1 nationally in team rush). The defense has only allowed a total of 19 points in 2 games. The skepticism comes in the passing game, because we just have not seen enough out of QB Layton Rabb to know if he can help win a game with his arm. The Mustangs have not had to be put in the position. They have been able to do a heavy run offense with a mild touch of passing to keep the defenses off-guard. Not sure what it is about the MSU Mustangs but they sure do a quality job of putting an athletic and talented team together.

WNMU had a setback last week against UTPB. The WNMU offense has been racking up the yardage but has just allowed too many turnovers. Javia Hall and the wide receiving corps may be one of the best in the conference. Unfortunately, the struggles for the offense occur when they play from behind. The Mustangs struggle with the turnover bug when they try to come back and start heaving the ball down the field. The team has a total of 20 turnovers in 4 games, which equals out to 5 turnovers per game; essentially, why they are 0-4. It is hard to win games with a large turnover margin. Additionally, WNMU has tried tirelessly to get the running game going but it has stayed inconsistent.

Game Analysis: MSU has appeared to be the playoff caliber-team that we have seen in years past. They look geared-up to vie for a LSC title and another trip to the NCAA Playoffs. This team is young but has good talent. WNMU has to continue to work on their turnover margin, especially against probably the best opponent that they have faced. This game will take everything that WNMU has to get one over on MSU.
