Tarleton State v. Western New Mexico: Saturday, October 7th 1 PM
Silver City, NM
The Texans were nearly outgained by 250 yards last week; but, capitalized enough to come away with a convincing win over an improving UTPB team. QB Zed Woerner went 11-17 for 168 yards with 2 pass TDs, one if his most efficient performances of the season. This Texans defense still appears to be shaky as they gave up 528 yards. The improvements have slowly been there for the Defense but if they want to win a Conference Title, they will have to improve or they will be going home empty handed. Last week, the Texans defense forced a fumble and took it 98 yards for their first score of the game.
The WNMU Mustangs surprised me last week. They really made Midwestern State win the game by throwing the ball. WNMU stepped up to hold the run game in check against MSU. In turn, the WNMU passing game opened-up wide against MSU with 328 passing yards and 2 TDs, while the rushing game also had their best performance with 139 rush yards and 1 TD, outgaining Midwestern State. WNMU was just a few plays from pulling out a win last week.

West Texas A&M v. Texas A&M Kingsville: Saturday, October 7th 7 PM
Kingsville, TX
These two teams happen to be in almost identical situations this season. Both are playing decent on defense; but, are struggling to score points. The Javelina defense has really been a national leader when it comes to their rushing defense (#26 nationally). The defensive line has really been one of the best in Division 2 this season. They will be expecting a heavy dose of the run from the Buffaloes this week. The Javelinas have simply struggled in every way on the offense with an average of 15.8 points per game. They appear to be having a lot of inconsistency when it comes to trying to get the ball downfield. We all thought that the Javelinas might have these struggles coming into the season and it apparently have become a reality.
West Texas is in the exact same boat as Kingsville. The offense is averaging 17.6 points per game and has had difficulties with getting the ball into the end zone. The defense has been absolutely stellar for this revamped team. The WT defense has been stretched to the max on the field but has been great, compared to years past.
