UT-Permian Basin v. Northern Michigan: Saturday, September 8th 12 PM

The Falcons had a successful game 1 last week. Yes, they did lose to a lower level FBS team in Texas State; but, it was closer in score than I thought. The surprise was the lack of passing yards (115 pass yards Total). The team did an outstanding job in controlling the turnover battle. Only having a single fumble turnover. The running game shared the load between the 2 QBs and RB Marquis Simmons (78 yards). The fail of the game was the FG unit with 2 missed FGs in the 20-yard range. The defense played a good game with only 363 yards gained by the opponent. QBs Sam Allen and Kameron Mathis both played. The Falcons certainly have some progress to be made but we need to see some more of this team. I have my concerns on the teams level of progress and taking that next giant step.

Western New Mexico v. Idaho (FBS): Saturday, September 8th 4 PM
Moscow, Idaho
Game Analysis: The Idaho Vandals were completely obliterated last week by Fresno State with a score of 79-to-13. The Vandals had multiple blocked kicks returned for TDs and could not really stop anyone on defense. The Vandals are still a decent team and I believe are still several steps ahead of Division 2 teams. However, this would be a huge upset if the Mustangs could pull it off.

Oklahoma Panhandle State (NAIA) v. West Texas A&M: Saturday, September 8th 6 PM
Canyon, TX
Game Analysis: OPSU of the NAIA and briefly with Division 2 makes the short trip to Canyon. The Aggies lost by 9 points to Hastings College of Nebraska. OPSU never appeared to have come out in the 2nd half and lost their lead and the game. Look for a balanced attack from the Aggies. WT opens at home with a win.

Texas Wesleyan (NAIA) v. Texas A&M Kingsville: Saturday, September 8th 7 PM

Game Analysis: This game may seem to be fairly dull as the Javelinas will dominate from start to finish. This game is over by Halftime.

The Hounds may have the most difficult schedule for the next 5 weeks. Looking at their schedule to others, it is a tall order.

The Greyhounds of ENMU surprised me by the level of play by the Defense. I was taken back by what was happening against Missouri S&T. The rush defense does not appear to be as stout as I expected. S&T did rush 40 plays but the Hounds gave up 5.5 yards on average, unlike last season. They were only giving up 3.2 rush yards per game last season. This could be the first week jitters but that is a big regression for this team that already struggles with their defensive secondary and has for some time. I was in awe by the rushing attack that was being put on ENMU, as it was unexpected. There was some expected growing-pains with a new D-Coordinator.

I left the best part for last. They were out-rushed by the other team last week: Unheard Of. I cannot recall seeing this happen hardly at all over the past several seasons.
