Kutztown rode the hot hand of quarterback Kevin Morton to a 52-14 victory over Bloomsburg and a berth in the PSAC championship game Saturday against Slippery Rock.
The 13th-ranked Golden Bears (9-1, 6-1 PSAC East) finished in a first-place tie with C.W. Post to earn a share of the division title for the first time since 1980 and will play in the state game on the strength of a 42-30 win over the Pioneers earlier in the season.
Bloomsburg (8-2, 5-2) has lost two in a row since opening with eight wins and reaching as high as No. 2 in the nation.
Morton completed 21 of 34 passes for 302 yards and four touchdowns. He had scoring hookups of 16 and 65 yards to Josh Smith in the second quarter and 30 to Erik Frazier in the third to help Kutztown open up a 31-7 lead.
Morton added a 5-yard touchdown run and a 38-yard pass to Smith while Josh Mastromatto returned a kickoff 83 yards for a score.
Franklyn Quiteh ran for 151 yards for No. 12 Bloomsburg to reach the 1,000-yard mark, but Kutztown limited Huskies quarterback Pat Carey to 75 passing yards and picked him off twice.
GANNON 33, SLIPPERY ROCK 27: Slippery Rock heads into next week's state game against Kutztown on a sour note after surrendering a 17-0 lead and seeing its bid for an undefeated division season come to an end.
The Rock (8-2, 6-1 PSAC West) finished in a tie with California in the division standings but hold the tiebreaker by virtue of a 17-3 win over the Vulcans earlier in the season.
Daniel Tapscott threw four touchdown passes to rally the Golden Knights (4-6, 3-4). Tapscott had scoring tosses of 11 and 6 yards to Lawrence Coleman and 11 to Evan Twombly, the latter tying the game at 20 midway through the third quarter.
Tapscott threw for 188 yards and Jansen Jones ran for 128 to give Gannon its third straight win in the series.
Cody Endres passed for 272 yards and two touchdowns for No. 14 Slippery Rock but was intercepted three times.
CALIFORNIA 34, EDINBORO 28: California gained a share of the PSAC West title with Slippery Rock after surviving a late Edinboro comeback attempt.
The win gives the Vulcans (8-2, 6-1 PSAC West) either the outright or co-division championship in each of the past seven seasons.
California led 31-7 in the third quarter and was ahead 34-14 with three minutes left. But James Jackson returned a blocked field goal 70 yards, and Cody Harris followed a successful onside kick with a 26-yard scoring toss to David Bostic to pull the Fighting Scots within six with 1:17 left.
The Vulcans recovered the second Edinboro onside kick to secure the win.
Lalich threw for 289 yards and three touchdowns - two to Thomas Mayo - and Lamont Smith rushed for 129. Harris had 288 yards and three touchdowns through the air for the Fighting Scots (7-3, 4-3).
MERCYHURST 42, CLARION 38: Richie Sanders capped a 28-point Mercyhurst rally with a 1-yard touchdown run with 32 seconds remaining as the Lakers snapped a five-game losing streak.
Mercyhurst (4-6, 2-5 PSAC West) trailed 38-14 after a 99-yard interception return by Clarion's Chris Wilson with 6:50 left in the third quarter. But Anthony Vendemia threw touchdown passes to R.J. Miller and Jeff Groene, and Allen Jones added a short scoring run to set up the Sanders' game-winner.
Vendemia threw for 325 yards, with 10 passes good for 166 yards going to Trevor Kennedy, and Sanders rushed for 125.
Patrick Graham-Murphy ran for 107 yards and three touchdowns for the Golden Eagles (2-8, 2-5). Ben Fiscus had 122 yards through the air and 77 on the ground.
C.W. POST 42, CHEYNEY 27: Steven Laurino threw four touchdown passes and ran for 56 yards and another score to lead C.W. Post to a share of the PSAC East title.
Despite the win, the Pioneers (6-4, 6-1 PSAC East) were denied a spot in the conference title game when co-division champion Kutztown defeated Bloomsburg.
Jeff Mack added 164 rushing yards for the Pioneers, including a 57-yard touchdown that was part of a 21-0 run that broke open a close game.
Chris Anderson had 160 passing yards and two rushing touchdowns for Cheyney (1-9, 0-7).
SHIPPENSBURG 44, EAST STROUDSBURG 14: Zach Zulli threw for 220 yards and four touchdowns and added another score on the ground in a romp over East Stroudsburg.
Zulli had three of his scoring tosses and his rushing touchdown in the first half to stake the Raiders (6-4, 4-3 PSAC East) to a 31-0 lead. He established a Shippensburg single-season record with 31 touchdown passes on the year.
The Raiders rushed for 401 of their 621 yards of total offense, with Zulli leading the way with 126 followed by Mike Frenette with 115.
Record-setting quarterback Ray Wagner was limited to 13 completions in 31 attempts for 172 yards for the Warriors (2-8, 1-6).
WEST CHESTER 49, MILLERSVILLE 13: Two touchdowns in the final minute of the first half gave the Golden Rams a 29-point halftime lead en route to a win over Millersville.
Sean McCartney hit LaRonn Lee on a 14-yard score with 50 seconds left before halftime and Rondell White from 20 yards out 33 seconds later to make it 42-13. McCartney completed 15 of 19 passes for 274 yards and three touchdowns for West Chester.
The Golden Rams (5-5, 4-3 PSAC East) need a win over IUP in their finale to avoid consecutive losing seasons for the first time since 1978 and 1979.
White rushed for 87 yards and added a pair of touchdowns on the ground. Marquis White ran for 92 yards to pace the Marauders (3-7, 2-5).
