Northern State (2-3) at Minot State (1-4)
Minot State got their first win for Head Coach Mike Aldrich, beating Mary 27-19 in a North Dakota NSIC battle. Larry Overstreet led the charge for the Beavers, amassing 190 yards on the ground with 3 scores. This moves the Minot tailback into fourth place in the conference in rushing yards per contest. Zac Cunha did get the start at QB for the Beavers but only threw for 65 yards, finishing 7 of 16 in the process.
Northern State surprised most by beating MSUM 28-20 on Gypsy Days in Aberdeen. Hunter Trautman got the start at quarterback and was an efficient 10 of 17 for 129 yards and a score. Running back Nick Truen powered his way to 119 yards and 3 scores for the Wolves.
Part of me wants to take the Beavers at home, coming off an emotional win, and having the luxury of not traveling for this Thursday night tilt. That said, I think NSU is a bad matchup for Minot State, stylistically. The Wolves can pound the football and play a physical style. The Beavers continue to struggle against the run, allowing 258 yards per contest, which places them nearly at the bottom of the conference in that category. On the flipside, Minot wants to run the football, but NSU is a little better against the run than the Beavers. Neither team can pass the ball very effectively, so I think this might end up a lower scoring game.
