Darkness

It has been pretty dark and cold in the Falewicz mansion since the power went out on Saturday night at 9 PM. I was in the middle of responding to some comments on the message board when the electricity went out and still has not returned. I had hoped to post my usual thoughts on Monday but the lack of electricity and my day job are preventing me from posting.

New Haven vs Merrimack

I was at the game on Saturday and continue to be surprised how well New Haven plays in the second half. They allowed the opening kickoff to be returned to fall behind 35-24 but then scored three straight touchdowns to stay undefeated in the league. The elements were not pretty after halftime as the rain was coming down sideways at times. Merrimack struggled to move the ball when the heavy rain started and it cost them the game. Head coach John Perry was obviously upset after the game about the elements and his team's struggles in the second half. They had the game in their gasps but were not able to finish off the Chargers.

New Haven head coach Peter Rossomando was in my better spirits after the game since his team pulled out another victory against one of the better teams in the league. In fact, it has been four straight wins against the contenders for the league title. (Southern Connecticut, AIC, Bentley, Merrimack) The Chargers have two games left in the season and the theme after the game was to "finish.

New Haven running back Mike DeCaro was the offensive star as he founded the end zone five times in the win. DeCaro is a native of Florida and not used to the wet snow that started to fall at the end of the game. He joked that it was the first game that he played in snow and obviously enjoyed the elements.

Fun in the Snow

All four games last weekend were affected by Mother Nature. The Bentley/Pace matchup along with the Stonehill/SC game were played in snow. Both games saw all of the scoring occur in the first half and tried not to let the elements affect the play. It was not any different up and down the East Coast as most of the teams in SR1 were effected by some sort of weather.

Random Thoughts

- The snow seems to be the only thing that has held Rashaad Slowley out of the end zone. After averaging over three scores per game, he was only able to score one time on Saturday.

- Merrimack senior Omari Mobley was accompanied on the field during his senior day introduction by backup quarterback Michael Romanella.

- New Haven is expected to remain in the top spot when the regional rankings are announced later today. The Bloomsburg loss to CW Post helps the Chargers get one step closer to a potential home game in the playoffs as only three teams are undefeated in the region with WV Wesleyan and Winston Salem joining New Haven in the rare club.

- Two weeks to go in the regular season and most of the big games are behind us. The biggest game left on the schedule occurs in two weeks when Merrimack travels to Southern Connecticut.
