Comeback Kids
It seems that AIC plays better when they are behind this season. It is something that makes coaches pull out their hair but is working very well for the 2012 version of the Yellow Jackets.
In their four wins in the league this season, AIC has outscored their opponents by the score of 76 to 25 in the second half. It all started in their first victory of the season when they outscored Merrimack 28-15 in the second half after leading by two heading into the locker room.
The latest example of their second half prowess was last Friday night against Stonehill. Down 17-7 at the half, they scored three unanswered touchdowns in the second half to grab the victory. It also helped that the defense limited the Skyhawks to just 136 total yards of offense.
AIC has been very good this season after they struggled in their opening game at Shepherd. They have a formidable season down the stretch with games still against Bentley and New Haven. The good news for the Yellow Jackets is that those games will be played on their home turf.
Tough Schedules
The month of October brings a new level of competition for most of the teams in the NE-10. The games are bigger and the stakes are higher. It always seems that as the season progresses, the match-ups get better.
Take Bentley for example. Every single year, they seem to have to face New Haven, AIC, Merrimack and Southern Connecticut in consecutive weeks. Guess who they close the season against this year?
It is always a make or break stretch for the Falcons to see if they are going to be at the top of the league or the middle. It starts this Saturday as they host nationally ranked and undefeated New Haven on their home turf.
The same is true for Stonehill. After starting the season 3-0 in the league, they had to endure a schedule that included Bentley, AIC, Merrimack and New Haven in consecutive weeks.
The first two weeks were on the road and resulted in losses to two teams that are currently undefeated in the league. The next two weeks are at home and include a nationally televised game against a nationally ranked team.
New Haven has just as tough of a schedule in the final four weeks of the season. Three of the games are on the road starting this weekend at Bentley. They have a short week after the Bentley game as they play on Thursday night at Stonehill. Their final regular season home game is against cross-town rival Southern Connecticut and then they travel to AIC to close out the regular season.
The schedule makers in the NE-10 have done a great job ensuring that all of the good games are being played in the final four weeks of the regular season. Plenty is at stake right now and it will all be settled on the football field.
Return of the Owls
Southern Connecticut has bounced back nicely in the past two weeks with victories over St. Anselm and Pace. Yes, it was over two teams that have yet to win a game this season but the Owls needed the wins to regain their confidence.
Jacob Jablonski had a career day with 337 passing yards with more than half of them going to Willie Epps (180). The big day for the senior wide receiver moved him up the all-time receiving records for Southern Connecticut. Epps is now second in receiving yards and third in touchdown in program history.
Southern will now welcome rival AIC this Saturday and try to extend their winning streak to three.

#1NewHaven Alum commented10-08-2012, 12:24 PMEditing a commentAs far as the quarterback controversy is concerned for New Haven, I think it's a good controversy to have because both are capable to lead the offense. New Haven is at their toughest part of the schedule and have to play with all top teams away from home. The only home game left is against rival Southern Connecticut and we all know that will be a battle regardless of the records so far.
