The first regional rankings have been released and the message boards are reacting. Here is a breakdown of the 10 teams in Super Region One:

1. Shippensburg 8-0, 8-0

Shippensburg is clearly the top team in the region right now. They have beaten all comers and beaten them handily. They control their own destiny for the top seed but have a lot of work still to do.

They will play Bloomsburg in a game that will decide the PSAC East participant in the PSAC championship game on November 10th. If they win this game, they can't overlook Cheyney at home the following weekend before a potential match-up with California in the PSAC championship game.

If they stumble over one of the next two weeks, they will travel to Indiana in the final weekend of the season. The Red Raiders have played the 72nd toughest schedule to date and the sixth if you only look at the 10 teams ranked this weekend.

2. Winston-Salem State 8-0, 8-0

Winston-Salem State looks to be well positioned for another trip to the playoffs and a potential bye in the first round. They have taken care of business in the CIAA to date and still have two games to play before the championship game.

They travel to Shaw and Fayetteville State to finish out the regular season before a potential match-up with Elizabeth City in the CIAA championship game. The schedule is very favorable for the Rams to win out as it is the weakest among the SR1 ranked teams and 130th overall in the country. They are currently 58th for games to date, right behind California in the country.

If WSSU wins out, it appears that they will have another first round bye. For them to have the top seed again, they will need the PSAC teams to beat up on each other as they don't have the same strength of schedule as the PSAC schools right now.

3. Bloomsburg 8-0, 8-0

Bloomsburg has yet to play a team with a winning record but all of that will change in the final three weeks of the season. They have one of the toughest schedules left and have a lot of work to do if they are going to make the field for the playoffs.

It all starts this weekend with a trip to Shippensburg in a game that will decide the PSAC East participant in the PSAC championship game. It doesn't get any easier the following weekend when they welcome West Chester. They will then either play in the PSAC championship game or travel to Slippery Rock to finish out the regular season. They will need to win at least two of those three games if they are going to finish in the top six of the region.

The Huskies have played the 134th toughest schedule in the first eight weeks which is last among the teams ranked this weekend. It completely changes as they have the toughest schedule down the stretch and will control their own destiny for the playoffs.

4. California 7-1, 7-1

California is in the driver's seat for playing the PSAC championship game but still has two tough games left. They have games against Slippery Rock and a trip to Mercyhurst that might decide the PSAC West champion.

Since they beat Indiana earlier in the season, they win the tiebreaker for the West but the loss to West Chester might have cost them a bye in the playoffs. If they had won that game and finished the season undefeated, they would be the top seed in the region and the regional title would go have gone through them.

The Vulcans have played the 57th toughest schedule in the country and third among SR1 ranked teams. They are not getting much help down the stretch as they will play the eighth toughest schedule among the ranked teams. Per usual, they are a very dangerous team and not one of any of the playoff participants want to play.

5. New Haven 7-0, 7-0

New Haven is in a good position to make the playoffs for the second straight year but still has some work to do. Unlike last year, they still have games that will aid their strength of schedule down the stretch. Last year, they played Pace and St. Anselm in the final two weeks which hurt them a bit for the top seed in the region.

This year, they are being hurt by their cross-town rival Southern Connecticut's struggles. After that, they will play AIC in consecutive weeks. Once on the road and then the winner of that game will host the NE-10 championship. Those two games will help New Haven rise in the rankings if they are able to sweep the games. A split puts them on the fringe of the top six and two losses kicks them out of contention.

The Chargers have played the 97th toughest schedule in the country and eighth among the ranked teams in the region. They have the sixth toughest schedule left of the ranked teams and need to win out to secure another playoff trip.

6. Charleston 6-1, 6-1

Charleston has a huge game this weekend against Glenville State that will determine whether or not they will have a chance at the playoffs. They are both currently tied with Shepherd for first place with one loss each in the WVIAC.

They have played the 61st toughest schedule in the country and are right in the middle at fifth of the ranked SR1 teams. They will be hurt over the final weeks as they have the 116th weakest schedule over the final three weeks as they have WV State and WV Wesleyan in the final two weeks.

They will need to win out and get some help in order to stay in the top six to make the playoffs. If they drop any of their final three games, they are most likely to be out of the playoff picture.

7. Indiana 7-1, 7-1

Indiana was one minute away from an undefeated record and a potential trip to the PSAC championship game. They lost late to California a couple of weeks ago and it hurt them dearly. They are on the outside of the PSAC championship game unless they get a lot of help.

They also might be on the outside of the playoff picture as well. They have the 112th toughest schedule in the country and it is ninth among the ranked teams in the region. They finish out the season with Clarion and a trip to Gannon. They have Shippensburg as the final weekend opponent but that might change based on who wins the PSAC East this weekend.

8. Shepherd 6-2, 6-2

One loss is going to haunt Shepherd and it happened two weeks ago at West Liberty. It is a game that will cost them a potential outright WVIAC championship and a playoff trip. After they lost to Shippensburg in the opening weekend, the Rams had taken care of business until that game.

They defeated Charleston to hold the tiebreaker and appeared to be the top team in the league. Shepherd still has two tough games with Glenville State and Fairmont State after a bye this weekend.

They have played the 21st toughest schedule in the country to date which is tops among the ranked teams in the region. They fall to 72nd toughest over the final three weeks and will need some help to get into the playoffs. If they win out, they are going to need some help from Charleston's opponents if they are going to get back to the playoffs.

9. AIC 6-1, 6-1

One team that controls their own destiny is AIC. They will have two cracks at New Haven over the final two weekends of the season. If they sweep the games, they will earn a trip to the playoffs. If they split or lose both games, that would end their season.

They are scheduled to play New Haven at home in two weeks for the final regular season game of the season. The winner of that game will host the first ever NE-10 championship game on November 10th. The Yellow Jackets need to win both games to make the playoffs.

If they split, they don't have the resume to make the playoffs. They have played the 89th toughest schedule to date which is seventh among the ranked teams. Their game against St. Anselm will hurt their strength of schedule before two match-ups with New Haven that will help to skyrocket it.

10. West Chester 5-2, 5-3

West Chester stumbled on the road against East Stroudsburg and it might have cost them a playoff spot. That was after a huge win over California that put them into position for a PSAC East title. But a loss to Shippensburg last weekend cost them any shot at playing in the PSAC championship game.

The Golden Rams will not be helped over the final three weekends as they play Cheyney, at Bloomsburg and Clarion. They have played the 26th toughest schedule in the country thus far which is also second best among the SR1 ranked teams. But they appear to need a lot of help in order to make the playoffs as well as winning out.
