I will be previewing all of the NE-10 football teams over the next 10 days. I will roll out each team in my preseason poll from # 10 to # 1. The NE-10 will release the coaches' preseason poll on August 25th.

The season starts on September 4th when defending champ American International travels to Assumption to open the 2014 season.

Here is the my pick for #7 in the league in 2014:

Assumption College Greyhounds (6-5, 6-3 NE-10)

Assumption was the surprise team of 2013. They were the only team to defeat NE-10 champion AIC and were also undefeated on the road during the regular season. The Greyhounds were on the cusp of that type of season and will look to repeat that success this year.

The offense has a lot of experience to replace from last year. Senior Sean Mayo is the only experienced quarterback on the roster after seeing action in five games last year. Fellow classmate Matt Heriveaux should see the majority of the carries out of the backfield after leading the team with nine rushing touchdowns last year. The receiving core is new and will need to find someone to emerge as a consistent threat. The offensive line returns a couple of starters led by senior Jack Dustin.

The defense lost just as many experienced players but sees more depth. Senior defensive end Derrick Mann returns after a monster 2013 season in which he recorded 5.5 sacks and 11 tackles for a loss. Senior defensive back Erik Abramson is back after having a solid 2013 campaign. Junior defensive back Kendall Dardy-Jones is the leading tackler with 55 stops from a year ago.

Head coach Bob Chesney saw a lot of success his first year and will hope to continue the good times. He has a lot of new faces on both sides of the ball and will need to find his leaders as the season progresses.
