The third and final edition of the regional rankings are out. We will have six teams left standing after this coming Saturday. They will battle for the Super Region One title. A lot of big games this weekend will determine the top six with three conference championships and one game acting like one.
Here is a look at the current top 10 teams:
1. Bloomsburg (10-0, 10-0 D2) - The Huskies continue to be the team to beat in the region. They took care of business over Lock Haven by the score of 40-3. They will travel to Slippery Rock for the PSAC Championship game this weekend. A win will keep them top ranked and earn a bye for the first round. A loss still gives them a home game but a tougher road.
2. Concord (10-0, 10-0 D2) - The Mountain Lions remained a solid second in the region with a 51-14 victory over Notre Dame. They clinched at least a share of the MEC regular season title and now face Shepherd for the outright title. A win will give them a bye in the first round and a loss will keep them in the playoffs but have to play in the first round.
3. West Chester (9-1, 9-1 D2)- The Rams defeated East Stroudsburg 35-24 and kept their chances of hosting a home playoff game very solid. They travel to Indiana to close out the season. A win and they will be home in the first round. A loss and they should still make the playoffs but will probably be on the road.
4. Winston Salem (8-1, 8-1 D2) - The Rams defeated Fayetteville State 17-7 and now will play for the CIAA title. They will face Virginia State and the winner of the game will make the playoffs. WSSU has dominated the CIAA over the past several years and looking for a return trip to the playoffs.
5. American International (8-2, 8-1 D2) - The Yellow Jackets took care of business over Pace by the score of 58-19. They will now host the NE-10 Championship game against LIU Post. An AIC victory will put them into the playoffs for the second consecutive season. A loss and their season is over.
6. Shepherd (7-1, 7-1 D2) - The Rams defeated West Virginia State 24-10 and have a huge game this weekend at home against Concord. A Shepherd victory will clinch a share of the MEC title and most likely a return trip to the playoffs. If Shepherd loses, their season is over.
7. Virginia State (8-2, 8-2 D2) - The Trojans defeated Virginia Union 33-12 and will now face Winston Salem in the CIAA Championship game. The winner will get a berth into the playoffs and the loser will go home. The playoffs are starting a week early for the CIAA.
8. Slippery Rock (8-2, 8-2 D2) - The Rock crushed Clarion 45-8 and won the PSAC West by virtue of their victory over Gannon. Slippery Rock will host the PSAC Championship and have a rematch of last year's game with Bloomsburg. It appears that the Rock needs to win the game in order to get into the playoffs but that is not a guarantee at this point. They will need a little help with some of the teams ahead of them losing this weekend.
9. California (7-2, 7-2 D2) - The Vulcans dropped a tough game to Mercyhurst by the score of 59-49. The defense struggled in the second half by allowing 42 points in the final 30 minutes and cost them a chance at the playoffs. They now face Lock Haven this week and are on the outside of the playoff picture. The forfeit against Gannon is not counted in the standings but definitely in the committee's eyes.
10. Charleston (7-3, 7-3 D2)
