I will be previewing all of the NE-10 football teams over the next 10 days. I will roll out each team in my preseason poll from # 10 to # 1. The NE-10 released the coaches' preseason poll on August 21st.

The season starts on September 3rd when defending champ LIU-Post travels to East Stroudsburg to open the 2015 season.

Here is my pick for #6 in the league in 2015:

Bentley University Falcons (5-6, 3-6 NE-10)

Coach: Bill Kavanaugh, 2nd year (5-6)

Opening Game: September 5th @ Mercyhurst

2014 Stats

2015 Roster

Bentley was so close to being a top team in 2014. All of their six losses were by seven points or less and several of them were last second losses. It is a tough pill to swallow for a new head coach but the Falcons rallied at the end of the year to finish strong.

The offensive side of the ball will be the biggest question for Bentley. Senior Matt Montalto and junior CJ Scarpa will compete for the starting quarterback job. Both have seen very limited game action over their time in Waltham. Junior Martin Bannerman should see the majority of the carries out of the backfield. Juniors Sean Myers and Chris Walsh will be called upon to be the top pass catches. The Bentley offensive line is also strong.

The strength of the Falcons going into the season is their defense. The defensive line features five seniors with plenty of experience. Jeff Amell and Paul Norris will anchor the trenches and look to dominate the opposing offensive line. Junior Bryan Hardy was the leading tackler a year ago from his linebacking position and will be looked upon to do more of the same this year. Junior Sam McDonald has a knack for the ball and will look to make plays in the secondary.

Head coach Bill Kavanaugh saw his team lose five straight league games last year a different way each time. He was discouraged at times but never lost focus of getting his team ready to compete. He will need his team to be ready each week and get on the positive side of those close games in 2015.
