I will be previewing all of the NE-10 football teams over the next 10 days. I will roll out each team in my preseason poll from # 10 to # 1. The NE-10 released the coaches' preseason poll on August 19th.
The season starts on September 1st when St. Anselm travels to Wagner and Pace is at Millersville.
Here is my pick for #3 in the league in 2016:
New Haven Chargers (7-4, 7-2 NE-10)
Coach: Chris Pincince, 3rd year (13-9)
Opening Game: September 3rd @ Slippery Rock
2016 Schedule
2015 Stats
2016 Roster (not posted as of 8/23/16 1:15 PM)
New Haven has been a perennial contender for the NE-10 title since they entered the league in 2009 and this year will be no different. They return a strong nucleus of players from a team that played in the 2015 title game. They have had eight months to think about that loss and will use it as motivation for this year.
Running back Andre Anderson will be the focal point of the offense. He was unstoppable at times last year and will be called upon to grind out tough yards once again. Ajee Patterson emerged as the quarterback last year and is expected to see the majority of snaps this year. He will have targets in Henry Adegunle, Devin Martin and Rishawn Harris back to help stretch the field for Anderson. The offensive line is always talented and will be a big part of the offensive scheme.
Tyler Condit had one of the best defensive seasons in NE-10 history and will look to add to his stellar career. He is all over the field and has a strong sense for the ball to make tackles like they are going out of style. Dave Calderon will be the anchor of the defensive line and spend a lot of time in the opposing backfield. The secondary is deep and talented with the return of several playmakers. Mark Clements, Stefano Bicknese, Matt Olivo and Nigel Davis will limit the opposing passing game.
Third year head coach Chris Pincince is well aware of the New Haven tradition and is looking for nothing but a championship season. But he will need the team to focus week to week on that opponent and not look down the road. He has the talent to win the league and make a trip to the NCAAs if his team is focused and healthy.
