I will be previewing all of the NE-10 football teams over the next 10 days. I will roll out each team in my preseason poll from # 10 to # 1. The NE-10 released the coaches' preseason poll on August 19th.

The season starts on September 1st when St. Anselm travels to Wagner and Pace is at Millersville.

Here is my pick for #2 in the league in 2016:

Long Island University Post Pioneers (7-4, 5-4 NE-10)

Coach: Bryan Collins, 19th season (130-68)

Opening Game: September 3rd @ Virginia Union

LIU Post was the coaches' favorite to repeat their 2014 championship season last year but injuries to their defense derailed their chance at the title. Their secondary was playing fourth and fifth stringers in the middle of the season and were not able to overcome those injuries.

The offense will once again be guided by quarterback Jeff Kidd. He emerged as a top signal caller last year by throwing 29 touchdowns and had one of the top offenses in the league last year. Malik Pierre and David White will see the ball out of the backfield. Both are capable of 200 yard games and big plays each time the ball is in their hands. Shane Hubbard, Kyle Ward and James Higgins will be the main aerial targets for Kidd and should find the end zone frequently. The offensive line is also big and athletic.

The defense will need to stay healthy and welcomes back several key players. Nate Feliz will be in charge of the middle of the field from his linebacking position. The defensive line of Kenny Scotland, Anthony DeNunzio and Kevin Petit-Frere form one of the best front lines in the league. Justin Ortiz, Kareem Folkes and Clarence Sears will anchor the secondary and called upon to limit the big play.

Nineteen year head coach Bryan Collins saw tough losses last year and will look to make sure that they are not repeated this year. The Pioneers have a lot of talent back in the fold and the motivation of getting back to the NE-10 championship game. If they are healthy and have some breaks go their way, they have a legitimate chance to hoist some hardware in November and play deep into November.
