I will be previewing all of the NE-10 football teams over the next 10 days. I will roll out each team in my preseason poll from # 10 to # 1. The NE-10 released the coaches' preseason poll on August 19th.

The season starts on September 1st when St. Anselm travels to Wagner and Pace is at Millersville.

Here is my pick for #1 in the league in 2015:

Assumption College Greyhounds (11-2, 8-1 NE-10)

Coach: Bob Chesney, 4th season (24-11)

Opening Game: September 3rd vs. Kutztown

2016 Roster

The emergence of Assumption football was a long time coming. They were on the cusp of great things for the past several years and people on a national level took notice. People in the NE-10 knew they were talented but are getting a lot of hype as they enter the 2016 season.

The quarterback position was a question mark last year and less so this year. Brendan Tobey was the starter last year but was hurt late in the season. Marc Monks played well in the postseason and the Greyhounds have two very capable signal callers. Alex Shain will be the main ball carrier out of the backfield. Deonte Harris was Mr. Everything last year and will be more of the same this year. Ashton Grant and Tyis Boykin will benefit from double teaming Harris in the passing game. The offensive line emerged as the rock of the team and will need to continue to protect the quarterback. Cole Tracy is one of the top kickers in the country at the Division II level.

Jarrod Casey is the heartbeat of the Assumption defense and makes big plays all the time. He will be joined in the secondary by Andrew Benson, Bakari Blunt and Kyle Conteras. Levi Fancher and Nick Valenti will anchor the linebackers and patrol the middle of the field. Ray Sakodieh, Joe Bruno and Jed Scott will be the guys in the trenches on the defensive line.

Fourth year head coach Bob Chesney clearly has the target on his team's back. They are the most talented team in the league but need to ignore the hype and make plays on the field. If they are able to drown out the noise and play to their ability, they will be the first team to repeat in the NE-10 since New Haven.
