It is that time of the year again, football season. The teams have been on campus for a couple of weeks now and are preparing for the 2017 season.
It all kicks off on August 31st when Bentley travels to West Chester and St. Anselm plays at Wagner.
Here is my pick for #5 in the league in 2017:
New Haven Chargers (7-4, 6-3 NE-10)
Coach: Chris Pincince, 4th year (20-13)
Opening Game: September 2nd @ Shaw
2017 Schedule
2016 Stats
2017 Roster (Not posted as of 8/23/17 1:00 PM)
Game to Watch: September 29th @ Southern Connecticut
It is always a game to circle on the calendar when these cross-town teams get together. They played twice last year because of the NE-10 championship weekend and the Chargers have dominated the rivalry since they restart their program in 2009.
Player to Watch: Stefano Bicknese, DB
The senior defensive back was second in tackles last year with 75. He has a tendency to be in the right place at the right time. He also picked off a pass, had three pass breakups and four pass defended. He will be called upon this year to anchor the defense.
Unit to Watch: Offense
The Chargers graduated a lot of talent in 2016 and many new faces will see time in 2017. All the major skill positions will see new faces and it will be up to the coaching staff to put them in positions to succeed. They might have seen limited time in the past but if the offense gels early, this might be a dangerous team.
Outlook:
Fourth year head coach Chris Pincince always recruits well and 2017 will be another test of that ability. He saw a lot of solid players play their final games last year and will look to a new crop of guys to excel this year.
