It is that time of the year again, football season. The teams have been on campus for a couple of weeks now and are preparing for the 2017 season.
It all kicks off on August 31st when Bentley travels to West Chester and St. Anselm plays at Wagner.

Here is my pick for #2 in the league in 2017:

Assumption College Greyhounds (9-3, 8-1 NE-10)

2016 Stats

2017 Roster

Game to Watch: September 30th at LIU Post

This is a rematch of the 2016 NE-10 championship game and a date that the team has had circled for a long time. Post not only beat Assumption twice last year but they are the only team to hold them under 30 points. It happened in both games and it is something that the Greyhounds were not accustomed to as they ran havoc over the rest of the league.

Player to Watch: Deonte Harris, WR

The junior wide receiver is a catalyst for the Assumption offense. He is a triple threat and has the chance to break off a big play each time he touches the ball. He was banged up a bit in 2016 and wants to regain his stat line from his freshman season. If he is healthy, he helps to open the field for the rest of the offensive stars for the Greyhounds and they will easily average 30 plus points per game this year.

Unit to Watch: Special Teams

Assumption has become of the best special team units in Division II. They are dangerous when a kicker is on the field. The Greyhounds have the top kicker in the league in Cole Tracy as he can hit from almost anywhere on the field. They are also blocking punts and field goals with regularity. It is a unit that is very solid and usually making a difference in the box score.

Outlook:

Fifth year head coach Bob Chesney has built a solid program in Worcester. They compete for a league title each year and have made the playoffs in two straight seasons. That is now the norm for the Greyhounds and anything less is a disappointment. With a deep roster, it looks to be another solid year for Assumption.
