Football season is here. Teams reported for training camp a couple of weeks ago and have been preparing for the 2018 season.

It kicks off August 30th as Southern Connecticut travels to Gannon, Pace is at Millersville and Bentley hosts West Chester.

Here is my pick for #4 in the league in 2018:

New Haven Chargers (6-4, 5-4 NE-10)

Coach: Chris Pincince, 5th year (26-17)

Opening Game: September 1st @ Bryant

Game to Watch: September 29th vs Bentley

New Haven had a hot start last year before struggling down the stretch. It is important for the Chargers to play well week in and week out. This should be their first major test in league play as they are very evenly matched with Bentley.

Player to Watch: Ajee Patterson, QB

The graduate student has been one of the top quarterbacks over the past three years in the league. He is back for his final season and his leadership is key to the success of the Chargers. When he is accurate and moving the chains, New Haven is one of the best teams in the league. If he is able to limit turnovers and play well, he will have the Chargers in the hunt for the postseason.

Unit to Watch: Linebackers

The most experienced unit is the linebacking core. Three of the top five tacklers are back and expected to continue to carry the load for the defense. They need to make tackles and swarm to the ball. If they are able to slow down the top offenses in the league, it will be another solid season for New Haven.

Fifth year head coach Chris Pincince has been able to attract talent to New Haven and 2018 is no different. He has his quarterback back for one final ride and ready to watch him put up big numbers. His defense is poised and ready to go. And he is hoping that home games don't come down to the final play like too many of them last year.
