Football season is here. Teams reported for training camp a couple of weeks ago and have been preparing for the 2018 season.

It kicks off August 30th as Southern Connecticut travels to Gannon, Pace is at Millersville and Bentley hosts West Chester.

Here is my pick for #1 in the league in 2018:

Long Island University-Post Pioneers (8-2, 7-2 NE-10)

Coach: Bryan Collins, 21st season (150-71)

Opening Game: September 8th vs American International

2018 Roster

Game to Watch: September 22nd vs Bentley

It was the game that did derail the first half of the 2017 season for the Pioneers. They made too many mistakes and lost on the road to Bentley. The same mistakes happened the following weekend and it might have cost LIU Post a playoff slot. This game has revenge written all over it for Post.

Player to Watch: Malik Pierre, RB

The redshirt senior is one of the best and most exciting running backs in the league. Each time he touches the ball, he is a threat to break off a long run and that includes his kick return duties. He has a new quarterback and needs to help him by continuing his explosive play and making it easier for the defense by grinding out the clock.

Unit to Watch: Wide Receivers

This unit will have their third different quarterback in the past three years. They need time to gel with the new signal caller and learn their likes and dislikes. But with the top pass catchers back, this unit has a chance to excel with a Division I transfer expected to take the reins. Big numbers could be in the offering for the Post wide outs.

Twenty-first-year head coach Bryan Collins continues to plug in the holes from the year before and have a team that is ready to compete for a league title. This year is no different and it is the reason that he is the top coach in the league. His staff recruits well and then coaches them up on the practice field that translate into victories during the games.
