Mountain East Conference - 2017 Season is Upon Us

Well folks we are less than a week away from kickoff when the 2017 season gets underway. Mountain East Conference fans have plenty of action to select from as seven conference teams begin play Thursday evening; Fairmont State seeing the first out-of-conference competition as they host East Stroudsburg (PSAC).

Perhaps the biggest news of the off-season was the official announcement that Wheeling Jesuit University is moving forward with building a football program. The Cardinals hired area native Zac Bruney to lead the program from the ground up as its head coach. Bruney is no stranger to winning; having spent his collegiate days playing quarterback for Division-III powerhouse Mount Union. He recently served on the coaching staff at Ohio Dominican (GLIAC/GMAC) where they proved to be a dominant force among a conference full of tough teams.

The off-season brought two head-coaching changes. Eric Smith begins his reign at Glenville State; and John Pennington takes over the WV State Yellow Jackets after former head coach Jon Anderson departed for the University of Sioux Falls (NSIC).

In tragic news, Concord University defensive coordinator Pat Dawson passed away suddenly over the summer. Our condolences go out to his family, friends and the Mountain Lion family.
