Well, not really, and especially not after the mess we saw in the GLIAC yesterday. Seriously, I'm not surprised that ODU beat UIndy, and the notion that Findlay could nip Wayne wasn't unrealistic either. However, to see BOTH was surprising. Add to that the convincing GV victory in the Battle of the Valleys, and even tossing in the collapse of the Ashland defense and yesterday was just nuts. So after all of that, who gets into the bracket from the GLIAC?

Well, I think at this point things are pretty well narrowed down to the five and six lines. Pueblo, Kearney, St. Cloud and Duluth are all in as far as I can see and likely hold the one-through-four slots. After that, it's anyone's guess. Hillsdale, Wayne State, Grand Valley and Mankato all sit with 8-3 records, and Saginaw Valley is in the mix at 7-3. The final two spots are going to come down to those five teams and as I have been saying on the Message Board for the last 16 hours or so, any two of those five would not surprise me in the least. It's not that I don't dare to take a stab...rather, I have seen enough of these and spoken directly with committee members enough over the years to know that this is not strictly a math problem. If it were, we would all have it figured out already. I could go back and forth for the next two days sorting out "who has what advantage over this team or that", and why "this team is weak and this other one isn't". The bottom line here is that the committee is going to do what they can to get the six best clubs into the field given the parameters the NCAA DII Championship Handbook provides, and given those parameters I can honestly say that I can see the case for any of these five teams that I have mentioned.

At this point, I'm seriously not even going to try and figure out what the committee is going to do or has done thus far. Again, I'm not on the call so I can't possibly know what is really being done. Sorry if that disappoints everyone, but for me it's now countdown to the Selection Show. Best of luck to the clubs that are still in contention to make the bracket and we'll start working with what the NCAA gives us later this afternoon.
