  • Week 11 of MIAA play

This week is probably the most interesting/impactful week this season in the MIAA. Biggest games involve NWMS hosting ESU & Wash on Thurs and Sat. I believe the Bearcats will win the conference outright if they can hold serve this week at home. This week is also huge for Emporia State and Washburn as they go on the road to play MO West and NWMS. Both of these teams are desperately trying to be the 3rd team along with FHSU to get in the NCAA tourney so they are huge games for that and also for seeding in the MIAA. UCO also has two tough road games at Rogers St and NSU. Both of these teams are tough at home and UCO needs to win in order to stay in the hunt for the conf. championship.

This week is very important as teams jockey for seedings in the MIAA tourney and jockey to be one of the ten that comes to KC. The top 6 avoid the play-in game and it looks like the 6th spot is still up for grabs. MO Southern occupies the #6 seed currently but they have 4 of their last 5 on the road with trips to UCO, Washburn and MO West looming. MO West looks like the only team that could catch them and sneak in as the #6 seed. Right now, Rogers St, UCM, MO West and NSU occupy 7, 8, 9 & 10 with UNK one game back and Pitt St. two games back. As far as seeding at the top, NWMS and UCO will most likely be the #1 & #2 seeds in either order. FHSU has the inside track to the #3 seed barring a collapse down the stretch and it looks like Emporia St. and Washburn will be the #4 and #5 seed depending on who wins the last game of the year between them at Emporia. So it looks like they may play back to back games by having to turn around and play in the first round of the MIAA tourney in the 4/5 match-up. Still a lot of tough games the last two weeks but the picture is getting clearer and clearer but there are some things that can still change significantly. Should be a ton of fun and this years MIAA tourney will be the most exciting in recent memory with more parity in the league.

Biggest win of the week: Washburn over NWMS to keep them in the conversation as the 3rd team from the MIAA to get in the NCAA tourney (UCO & NWMS are a lock). Biggest loss of the week: Emporia State at MO West. Other notable wins: FHSU over UCM at UCM and UCO coming back from 14 down at NSU to beat them by double digits. On to Week 12 (the final week)

Southern needs to win at Western tonight to get a good hold on that 6 seed. And boy is that a big deal. The 6 seed is guaranteed to be among the final six alive come Friday, whereas the 7 seed has to win both Wednesday and Thursday to get that far.

The ESU loss at Western hurt...makes the game at home Saturday that much bigger. I see the Bods and Bees squaring off in that 4 vs 5 game next Friday too...unless the planets align and the Lopers can somehow find a way to upset NW...and then Hays...and then...well who knows...
