Students are long gone, people at work. We have tix but screwed up and thought game was today and didn’t check tix. Friday afternoon game threw lots of people off. I agree about Glock. If he bails on NW hopefully he’ll land at Drake

I guess I’m weird, because I don’t want NW, nor would I expect it to become a pipeline to Drake. If he is good at NW, I hope he likes it here enough to stay and gives us someone to build with. lol

I have two D1 teams right now because Drake has 4 of the guys we rode with for several years. I’m a Mizzou fan first….and no, that’s not easy, but I will probably remain an avid Drake fan until Stirtz is done. After that, I’ll pay attention and quietly want Mac to do great things, but my allegiance will still be with the Tigers and Northwest.

NW will always be our D2 ‘home team’ and Drake is the only D1 team I follow(before this year I paid very little attention to D1)

Sweet ... checking in on the UCM Mules schedule (along with other MIAA teams) to see how they have fared so far this season ... and see the upcoming January 9 game vs NW ... ranked #20. Lots of respect being shown by UCM to bill this game vs our NW Bearcats with 3 wins and 8 losses and promoting us with a #20 ranking. Love their perception of this 2024-25 Bearcat team. Or maybe I love their sense of humor. The things Central will do to stoop to with their hopes to maybe increase ticket sales for their 6-6 UCM Mules on a January 9 game day vs "#20" NW Missouri State. They kill me.

          (I'm sure corrections are coming).

It doesn’t appear sinister, just lazy. They’re using the preseason rankings (also shows Washburn as #10 where they started rather than their current #2)

I lose track of these guys sometimes, but if anyone is interested, Trevor Hudgins is still playing pro ball in highest level of the French League for Le Mans Sarthe Basket. He’s the leading score at 13.1 a game with shooting splits of 58% from 2, 46% from 3, and 98% from the line. How we ever got 4 years of him in Maryville is beyond me.

Ryan Hawkins plays in the same league for Stade Rochelais Basket. They played against each other just before Christmas. How cool is that?

Isn't Wes Dreamer and Diego Bernard playing overseas? Do you know where they are at if they are still playing?

Would be fun to watch Trevor and Ryan being interviewed after a game and speaking French!

I had to look it up.

Diego is playing for the Sudbury Five in Ontario, Canada. They play in the Basketball Super League that plays throughout Canada and the US. He's playing about 16 minutes and averaging a little over 7 points a game.

Wes is playing for the Dresden Titans in Germany. They playing in the German Barmer 2, which is the 2nd level. He is starting and averaging 15 points and 6 rebounds a game. He's has some monsters... several plus 20 point outputs.

The link I provided will let you search for all of them.

                    • Elijah Allen (2011) is also playing in Germany and looks like he is still playing well. Any others? I didn't know about Elijah until I read a Wes Dreamer interview in which he was brought up.

                      • The women dropped their game to FHSU… a poor 3rd quarter did them in, but the whole night, things just looked easier for Hays. We seemed to have to scratch and claw to score. I still think Riley is going to be a really good player for us down the road… she’s quick and can handle the ball. She can get a little out of control and has too many turnovers but I like her potential. She’s really the only one that can create for herself or others by blowing by people… she had a couple of great dump offs off of penetration that our bigs just couldn’t finish the open layup. Good effort against a really good team.

The men are down 14 at the half. It’s pretty ugly… I hate to say it, but I don’t feel we’re getting any better. At anything. Maybe the second half will make me eat some crow. I know the students are gone, but the crowd is sad to look at. There’s probably more NW green at Drake games… that’s not good.

Interesting fact: interesting to me anyway, as a Mizzou fan. I didn’t know Caleb Grill has a brother that plays for FHSU. Looks like a nice player… Kyle has 8 at the half.

                        • It was 47-37 with a little over 3 minutes left to go, so I should probably give the defense some credit. Maybe we have gotten better at something. That game was a tough watch for both teams.

Thought the D was really the only positive...doesn't look like he has the type of players he needs for what he wants to do...as much as it looked like a positive keeping several guys from last year...they don't seem to fit the new style. I would like to see more improvement through the year...if we don't then you start to question if this was the right hire. We do need to remember initially, many didn't like the McCollum hire (myself included) and his first 2 years certainly didn't help to squash the doubters (myself included) and that turned out okay! :)

I'm a firm believer, even if you don't have a good roster or one for what you really want to do...if your team doesn't get better during the year...that is a big problem. I'm watching closely to see how much improvement we see thru the year.

Austin hasn't recruited athletic players during his tenure. He doesn't appear to like the drive and create game. He's more of a inside out type. Need to have offensive threats down low to really make that work and as much as Kelsey Fields has improved she's still lacking in offensive skills. Probably loves the 3 a little too much...unless he can recruit enough players who can actually get open on their own AND shoot it well from deep. Kesten has shown more improvement since her freshman year...than any player I've seen in a long time...I've heard she works her tail off and it shows.

Looks like Hays is at the top of the MIAA this year with Pitt, probably...but I think the league, as a whole is down some this year.

NW holds up well against teams who aren't overly athletic...Western has one really athletic player and she went off for 28 on them...the previous 2 years Western was 8 to 10 deep athletically and NW really couldn't keep up with them. Not sure the ceiling for NW is that high unless he starts to get more players like Riley and gets better offensive threats down low (easier said than done).

Sat by Olivia Hollenbeck's mom and step dad...didn't realize how close she was to coming to NW...but Hays had more historical success and she chose them. She would have been a huge difference in what Austin appears to want to do.

For now, I would like to see him (coach) pivot and adjust to the players he does have rather than trying to push a square block through a round hole. Going forward start recruiting more players for the system he really wants until he can fully implement that.

Austin has used Hartnett as that inside out in the past by having her back in the post from the wing, but last night, Hays was running a double at her every time she’d start to go, making her give it up before she got where she wanted to get. Pretty good scout taking advantage of our lack of athleticism on the perimeter. There’s times where Maas looks like she could have potential to develop into an inside post presence.. time will tell.

We surprised some people last year, myself included, and gritted out some wins we probably shouldn’t have. We had a lot coming back, but Jayna Green was a big loss. She just quietly stuffed stat sheets… probably our best defender, block shots, steals, rebounds, could score a little, just a smart, complete player. We have some girls with potential, but I don’t think we’ve been able to quite fill that void yet.
