Drake “Bearcats” 2024-2025

Per request, and since there are a few Bearcat fans and perhaps others that will follow and discuss the inaugural season of Coach McCollum and 4 former players with the Drake Bulldogs, I’m starting a thread to separate it from the Northwest thread.

Home game tomorrow night vs Florida Gulf Coast. I don’t know if they’re still “Dunk City” like they were during their Sweet 16 run a few years ago, but it’s another chance to see if our guys stack up.

Knapp Center is a great place to watch a game. You’re close to the court in the lower level. Fans don’t seem to stick around and mingle with the players and coaches like we’re used to. Hoping for a good showing of Drake ‘Bearcat’ *fans at the KU game. Tix are $50ish.

NWFanatic ... since you are on the Drake Bulldogs Basketball message board, do you recall the 'pain in the ass' Drake poster who just *****ed and complained about anything and everything with references to Northwest Missouri State? Went by the name something like 'WestEnd..."? He fought with everyone on that message board. Everyone was sick of him. Always claimed he knew more about Drake Bulldogs basketball than anyone, including God. Does it look to you like he got kicked off the message board? Glad your wife wasn't sitting next to him when she was yelling out 'Bearcats'. I think he would have got into a fist fight with her.

Drake with the win, 63-61. Stirtz with 25 and Abreau 17… Daniel hit the game winning 3! Probably wasn’t their best game as it seemed like Drake was the better team and let FGCU hang around, but they got the W. Miami on Thursday!

Bennett and Daniel each played all 40 minutes. Mitch and Isaiah played tough D Daniel had the last 5 pts for DU and Bennett rebounded a missed FGC shot to end the game.
Just more of what we’ve known for years…Ben found D1 caliber talent and/or make a player D1 caliber by the time he’s a senior…and Ben can coach D1. FGC coach once coached a Penn St. Also just saw DU is #4 in scoring defense.

Pretty proud seeing all four former NW players Isaiah Jackson, Mitch Mascari, Daniel Abreu and Bennett Stirtz stepping out on the court vs those Miami Hurricanes. Those four players have so far started all four games for the Drake Bulldogs ... now 4-0. Moving on!

The 4 ‘D2’ players from NW accounted for over 70% of Drake’s scoring. Bennet 21 Daniel 18( plus 10 boards) Mitch 15 Isaiah 4
and they shot poorly from 3. Ben’s defense held Miami 30 pts below their average. Just reaffirms what I felt for years(Mac’s been D1 caliber coach for years and recruits/develops D1 caliber players)

It won't be long until the Missouri Valley hates seeing McCollum as much as the MIAA and the rest of D2 did. That dude is a great coach and I have no doubt he will enjoy quite a bit of success in his new home. Pretty cool to see what most of knew all along, the Bearcats were always a D1 level program with Ben in charge. I look forward to watching everyone else realize it too.
