Has the OVC changed their policy again. Around 3 or 4 years ago they voted not to accept any schools that was not already D1.

if murray leaves and possibility of eastern illinois cutting sports they dont have much choice unless they want to operate with 2-3 less teams. landscape has changed

Great choice for the OVC, would be a horrible move for USI.

Bet Watson would love it though. Then he'd have a five year excuse to underperform.

Eastern Illinois had the second worst enrollment decline over the last 10 years, according to the Chicago Tribune. Judging by some of the issues that plagues Illinois' state-owned schools, athletics - which is likely funded by student activity fees (presuming non-FBS Power Five schools like Eastern Illinois fund athletics as most schools typically do) - will probably feel the pinch worse than other areas of the school:

Speaking of which, should the budget crunch get to the point where EIU has to drop down to D2, they could potentially end up in the GLVC. From looking at the OVC's current footprint, the travel costs, not just for football, but for basketball and other 'non-revenue' sports, would be somewhat more favorable in the GLVC.

Not saying that would actually happen, but given the above article, it doesn't seem too far fetched.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. Recall that Northern Kentucky fired their men's basketball head coach not too long after the Norse began their transition from D2 to D1.

They fired Bezold 2 or 3 years in, but only after they changed the AD first. As long as JMH is there, Watson sounds pretty safe.

Dave balza was axed too a couple yrs into transition then FGCU hired enfield. Both NKU and FGCU made tourney first yr eligible.
Jm won't fire WoD because "he building a new house" and "Weber and lowery said he'd bring USI championships".

I believe that the OVC currently has 3 teams that doesn't play football.

Belmont and SIU-E don't have football, while Morehead has it but is in the Pioneer.

With Wichita st leaving, the mvc is now a pretty terrible league. I guess Murray sees it as an opportunity now that they are no longer dominant in the ovc.

I don't see any news articles reporting this...who/what are your sources before message board rumors go into full swing?
