COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Allen University men's basketball rolled to a huge 77-54 blowout win over SIAC West foe Central State University (OH) at home Monday evening.
The big win was Allen's first on the season and they earned it by shooting an impressive 55 percent from three-point range. Allen got out to a 30-17 lead in the first half at the 6:46 mark before extending it to 36-22 with five minutes to play by shooting 47 percent from the floor and 55.6 percent from behind-the-arc. However, CSU would close the half on a 14-4 run to get within four points of the Jackets at the break.
Allen then got out to a fast start in the second half making back to back threes from senior guard Darius Williams to go up by 10 points less than a minute into the half before extending their lead to 21 points at 59-38 with 14 minutes to play. AU then extended their lead to a massive 24 points on another Williams jumper at the 9:00 minute mark of the half.
CSU would not get much closer the rest of the half as Williams led the way with 21 points on 7 of 11 shooting and an astounding 6 of 8 from three-point range. Williams also had 2 blocks, 2 assists and a steal in the win.
Fellow senior wing Cameron Sembly also played well scoring 14 points on 6 of 12 shooting with 6 rebounds, 2 blocks, 2 steals, and a season-best 7 assists. Senior forward Reggie Reynolds also finished in double-figures scoring 12 points on 4 of 6 shooting from three while adding 5 rebounds with a block and a steal.
Sophomore guard Shawn Jones Jr. also played well scoring 9 points with 2 assists off the bench while fellow point guard Anthony Baker Jr. picked up a season-high of six assists with 6 points and 4 rebounds off the bench. Freshman forward Nakia Johnson led the team with 4 blocks as well while scoring 6 points and bringing down 5 rebounds.
Allen improves to 1-6 on the season and 1-3 in conference and will next return to action on the road Saturday at 2 pm to face St. Augustine's University (NC) in Raleigh.
