I wonder how many school presidents go "why not go D3?" what would change?

It's rather amazing how many college presidents don't know anything about athletics. You literally could do a couple hours of quick study to find out how the college athletic system works.

I totally agree with you that if they said why not go d3, the A.D.s and athletes would freak out. That's what happened at Northwest Nazarene and I'm not sure if things changed that much, but they do draw well at the gate. Tickets are pretty cheap I would say around $5, same as Western Oregon. College basketball at higher levels is getting cheaper, too. Oregon State you can get in for $10 or under depending on the promotion that day. Beavers are actually good this year, too.

But yes, these athletic directors are climbers and if there was a threat to go division 3 if crowds didn't improve there might be some push. The PacWest website has some nice bios on the athletic directors of each school this month. It's interesting reading. In the lead up to each story that says part of their job is to promote their programs. I know it's a hard job but I'm wondering how much promotion is going on at the small college level. I mean come on, you got to do something. Brag about your cheaper tickets, about local guys playing, do something. Sitting back isn't going to accomplish anything.

Wow, and I thought the GNAC had attendance issues. Few are showing up to CCAA games. Yeah, lots to do in Cali, weather, etc., but these numbers suggest why are they playing D2 ball? Why are they raising scholarship money to play in front of no one? What do these athletic directors do to earn their money? This is crazy.

CS Dominguez Hills -- First in the standings at a great 19-4 overall; LAST in attendance at 113 game. How do they justify that attendance? Can't put flyers up in the residence halls?

Chico State -- Conference leader at 523, not even close to the GNAC leader NNU at 1,100. Chico is pretty remote and a decent-sized town, you can't draw better than this?

Cal Poly Humboldt -- You cut football for this? To get 313 a game in men's hoops? Brutal, but better than most of the slugs in this conference.

Cal Poly Pomona -- 252, can't find 500 fans in a SoCal metro area? Just don't hire any athletic dept. people other than coaches and trainers.

CS San Marcos -- Pretty good program the last few years, being rewarded with an average of 200 fans a game.

CS San Bernardino -- Far enough out of L.A. to make it inconvenient to go into the city, big enough city to get better than 196 a game.

CS L.A. -- I doubt Lakers, UCLA, and USC fans are going to join the 168 per game here, but that's a bad middle school crowd.

San Francisco State -- 167, really? Horrific.

CS Monterey Bay -- Again, a fairly remote campus by California standards and they get 155 a game.

CS East Bay -- Populous area, big college, 151 a game. You suck.

Sonoma State -- Sucking worse is Sonoma, at 126 a game. If their A.D. and staff worked it, perhaps getting 600 a game, maybe they wouldn't be eliminating sports.

* I don't get raising scholarships money, traveling all over the state, paying coaches, and bad A.D.'s, to play in front of nobody. This makes GNAC attendance look good, which it isn't. Have some pride CCAA.
