Ha, thanks! I'd love to work in college sports someday.

I did a project while I was studying at SDSU about the feasibility of NIL at small colleges. Part of my argument was that I-29 had a cluster of schools with championships that was clearly creating a market potential, so the bulk of that list was already in my brain.

Concordia was new info to me though. I knew they had success under Minneota's Les Josephson, but never knew to what extent. UND had that one-off in DII, and I always forget about my friends at USF (sorry guys). I had fun putting that together.

My HS football coach, Les Perry, was the fullback and kicker for the Cobbers who lost in the 1969 NAIA finals.

What's a Cobber? Is it corn related?

Yes, I can't remember which school was making fun of them having a cornfield next to their field.

But this is funnier. St Olaf's um ya ya song. Especially when they do it at graduation.

It's funny because of the "big three" colleges in Fargo-Moorhead - they're also the most ritzy, which isn't usually associated with agricultural practices. Good school and athletics department though.

Their basketball team plays at Memorial Arena - a really neat lookin' D3 gym, though it's most famous for a concert that never happened on the 1959 Winter Dance Party tour. (A show earlier in that tour was referenced in the movie A Complete Unknown too!)

Neat! That's really cool, did he ever talk about it?

Yeesh - Les was not the coach at Concordia. I wonder why I got that mixed up? Maybe I was thinking of Wadena's Jim Christopherson? The 3 letter first name, long midwestern last name... that's probably it.

Yes, he was my favorite coach! Since I used some of his terminology (along with my Ridgewater plays) I would talk with him a lot. He talked about the A&I backfield and their 40 times- and that some of them played in the NFL. Les tried out as a kicker for the Vikings but hurt his knee in practice so he didn't have much of a chance to beat out Fred Cox, the inventor of the Nerf ball. Les also spent a year before coming to Buffalo Lake playing for the Indianapolis Capitols. I think they were in the Continental Football League or something similar. After leaving BL he was in the WFL- I think the Florida Blazers and one other. We were going to watch him on TV one night- the team folded that day.

There was no Victory Bowl this year for the NCCAA national championship.

One thing I want to do someday is figure out how many football championships were won along the I-29 corridor running from Grand Forks to Omaha/Council Bluffs. Between UND/NDSU/SDSU/Morningside/Iowa Western - it has to be a ton.
C32A? I googled that and all I see is a Boeing airplane.

"C32A" = California Community College Athletic Association (though I think SW_Mustang meant 3C2A - at least according to their website).

Yes, SW_Mustang did mean that, I mentioned it to him (FIFY) on the previous page.

I got a Nerf football when they first came out in the early 70's and I remember the Florida Blazers as well. Go deep laker I'll throw you a Hail Mary.

Saves time over typing "CCCAA". They might call it 3C2A.

It's not technically a national championship but they also have more teams than the other 49 states combined.

And, if I'm not mistaken, the 3C2A schools don't compete for a national title since their league is so large (there are over 100 community colleges in California alone).

If I'm correct it's only for California colleges, unless they picked up a few drifters in nearby states. They have more football programs than the entire NJCAA, so they don't really need to compete outside of it.

They used to have the Junior Rose Bowl which was considered to be a national championship - top team in California vs. top team outside of it. They usually won though.
