Computer systems require data to "work." Any preseason (or in fact, early season) computer rankings are relying on previous season data to work and are therefore VERY questionable at best. As the season roles and previous season is "flushed out," computer rankings become more and more accurate in properly ranking teams.

IMHO, preseason and early in the season (first 3 games), human based rankings are more accurate...from the fourth week forward, computer systems rule the day.

The thing with college football and especially this level that I love most is the emergence every year of playmakers few knew were even on the roster. Human or computer early season rankings both lack any of the insight into how teams will progress or regress. It's just fun to watch play itself out on the field.
