Saginaw Valley 41 - Alderson Broaddus 17
AB may have won the first GMAC title but let's face it, they beat two lousy teams last year. SVSU is a very solid mid-level GLIAC team that will give AB a real look at what's coming their way from Findlay, ODU & Hillsdale. SVSU will win by several TDs

Findlay 35- Tiffin 26
These teams have played some very entertaining games over the past few seasons with UF winning them all...in fact, they have dominated this series with something like a 24-1 record against their fellow NW Ohio neighbors. Expect another close game with UF winning.

Hillsdale 42 - Mercyhurst 14
Last year Mercy got clobbered in week #1 by Ashland 48-0; Hillsdale isn't quite Ashland but they are certainly an excellent football team that has a chance to make the playoffs this year while Mercy is certainly not on their level

Murray State 52 - Kentucky Wesleyan 6
Murray St is not a good I-AA team and KWC is a D2 bottom feeder right now...expect a blow out

Edinboro 56 - Lake Erie 17
Edinboro had a solid 2016 season and looks to build off of that...while LEC is a program that is a mess right now and will not be competitive in many, if any, of their games this fall after going 0-11 last year

Malone 29 - Taylor 26
These teams played a very competitive and entertaining game last year and I expect the same again...Taylor is a good but not great NAIA team while Malone is trying to build something in year #2 of the current regime

California 35 - Ohio Dominican 20
I wish ODU played Cal two or three years ago when they had the team to beat them; expect a competitive game but Cal will have too many playmakers for the Panthers this year

Wayne State 30 - Walsh 13
Walsh will be the most improved team this year but they cannot match the size and physicality of Wayne State

Bonus Pick:
Ashland 31 - IUP 27
Quite possibly the best D2 college game in the country this weekend; should be a thriller...Ashland tends to play better at the beginning of the season than at the end under Lee Owens

It's going to be interesting to see how this whole season plays out and it all gets started this week.

The Ashland - IUP game will be a good one, as will be Findlay and Tiffin. Great analysis.

Hoping that Hillsdale game goes as well as you predict. Mercyhurst gave up an average of 285.5 yards passing and 193.6 rushing for 479 yards per game last year. Looks like there should be some room for Stewart and Brock to connect while the Chargers break in a couple of freshmen running backs.

We have play makers, we're just really young. I'm not expecting a win, but would hope we can give 'em a game.

I think it will be really close and would love to see a GMAC win. SVSU improved to 5-5 last season after winning just one game in 2015. We will see whether they'll be even better or taking a step backwards.

SVSU vs AB game was a little closer than you predicted (final was 42-24). I think you should return to India and take a Guru refresher course. Swami will meet you at Mumbai airport. :wink:

Guru Picks did very well this week going 7-2 and predicting several scores quite close to their actuals. Here is a quick look at the results and what we've learned so far...

Guru Pick: SVSU 41 - AB 17
Actual Score: SVSU 42 - AB 24
Note: AB played this mid-level GLIAC school very competitive for most of the game...a good game for a program that hasn't ever played a full D2-only schedule yet...Guru nailed it

Guru Pick: Findlay 35 - Tiffin 26
Actual Score: Findlay 28 - Tiffin 13
Note: Tiffin led 10-0 before UF went on a 28-0 run...if UF can beat a top 5 program like Ferris State at home this week (lost to FSU last year 20-17) then it could be a magical year for the Oilers...Guru came close on this pick but it was alittle lower scoring than predicted

Note: Tough to pick mismatches like this but Guru was certainly in the ballpark

Note: Lower score than expected but same old Lake Erie...six turnovers and 120 yards in penalties...some things never change

Note: I said to expect a close game and it was...sadly the wrong team won...Malone was driving to tie the game late before throwing an INT

Note: ODU played closer than predicted and nearly won the game; this would have been huge for the new league to get a win over a top top-5 team in week one had ODU held on

Note: Guru nailed it and Wayne was far more physical as predicted

Note: Again, wrong team won...Ashland had a FG locked with 1:50 remaining in the game before IUP then drove the field to win on the games final play...otherwise Ashland would have had the 26-23 victory...and as predicted this game was one of the very best in D2 nationally

What we learned so far in week #1...
AB - looked better than some GLIAC folks thought they would...may they will compete against ODU, Hillsdale & Findlay after all
Hillsdale - we'll see how much they improve against Michigan Tech this week; didn't look very good against a bad Mercyhurst team
Findlay - beat Tiffin for the 25th time in 26 tries, now comes one of the best teams in D2, Ferris State...
KYC - will be as bad as before, only possible conference wins will come against Malone or Lake Erie
Lake Erie - a horrible team, lots of turnovers and lots of penalties...could easily go 0-fer again this fall
Malone - disturbing loss to a NAIA team with 24 scholarship players while Malone has 36 + Malone had 20 rushed for -18 yards on the ground...ouch
ODU - beat Ashland this week and everything is better...is there a D2 team in the country that has as difficult of a schedule to begin the season as ODU with Cal & Ashland?
Walsh - of all the bottom-feeders in this league they have the most potential...play at SVSU this week so that will provide a test of how good AB's effort was against the Cards this past week

Both will have to run the table. ODU might have a better shot because if they were to lose again and then go on and win the GMAC they could have a shot at earned access. I think both need to win out though.
