Not knowing how camp played out, I think Phillips is the right choice. What you want to see from a QB is improvement from year to year. We have all or part of a three year body of work with Phillips as a DII college QB. As a back up in 2015, he completed 44% of his throws (23 for 52), amassed 522 yards, had 5 TDs and 5 Ints...2016 as an 11 game starter, he completed 55% of his throws (142 for 259), amassed 2473 yards, had 17 TD's and 9 Ints...Small sample size but in two games as the starter in 2017 before his injury, he completed 63% of his passes (39/62), had 528 yards, 5 TD's and 3 Ints. I also like that he "comes out of the gate" hot winning both of his season opening games at Gannon.
He's a proven winner who will be playing for his hometown team. Given how badly WLU QB's played last season, he at least deserves a shot. Guess we'll see if he's more Amedro or Crow or Conwell.
