Week 1 in the NE10 was, in a word, rough. Only one NE10 member won their game in Week 1, and that was Stonehill with an easy win at Bloomsburg. There was a mixture of close games, nail-biters, and blowouts, but only one went the NE10's way.
For the NE10 Pick'Em, budman comes back to defend the title, but an IUP fan takes the early lead while IUP takes their game against NE10 opponent New Haven.
The recap from last week:
1. Gannon 14-7 over Southern CT State - The first of two 14-7 finals this week. Gannon's defense has a goal-line stand at the end of the game to stop SCSU from scoring a potential tying touchdown.
2. Millersville over Pace 21-20 - Pace's Pat Davis misses a 42-yard field goal at the end that could have won it for Pace.
3. Cal U over St. Anselm 59-13 - Hawks can't hang with the PSAC West power Cal Vulcans.
4. West Chester over Bentley 14-7 - Golden Rams score with a minute left to win a defensive struggle. Bentley forces five turnovers but couldn't get over the hump on offense.
5. Wesley over Franklin Pierce 69-0 - Ravens show lack of experience and age in their first-ever game against a Wesley team that wants to reach the D3 playoffs.
6. Kutztown 54-16 over Assumption - Bears get out quick and Assumption couldn't keep pace.
7. Bowie State 34-20 over AIC - Game was closer than the final score indicates. AIC was in it until Bowie State pulled away late.
8. IUP over New Haven 24-13 - Crimson Hawks were outgained by New Haven, but their defense made enough plays to hold the Chargers back.
9. Stonehill over Bloomsburg 33-14 - Skyhawks were dominant in all parts of the game.
And the standings for the NE10 Pick'Em are (in no particular order):
For Week 2 in the NE10 there will be four conference (but not really) conference games and one true non-conference game. To get to the required number of regular-season games, every NE10 school except for Franklin Pierce will play another NE10 opponent in a game this week that will not count toward the conference standings. The rematch, which will count as a conference game, will be held during the last week of the regular season. Interestingly enough, Franklin Pierce will face former NE10 member Merrimack for their last regular-season game. All teams listed have an 0-1 record except 1-0 Stonehill.
Friday, Sept. 13:
1. Southern CT State at Pace, 7:00 PM - Both teams picked to finish in the NE10's top half look for their first win.
Saturday, Sept. 14:
1. Bentley at AIC, 12:00 PM - Bentley's defense looks to keep creating turnovers after getting five against West Chester.
2. Curry (D3 Commonwealth Coast Conference) at Franklin Pierce, 12:00 PM - Ravens host their second straight D3 opponent after losing to Wesley last week. Curry (fun fact) was on the losing end of New Haven's first-ever football victory, a 13-7 Chargers win on Sept. 20, 1975 that came after an 0-18 start as a program.
3. St. Anselm at Assumption, 1:00 PM - Both teams look to put blowout losses behind them.
4. New Haven at Stonehill, 2:30 PM - Skyhawks look to show the Bloomsburg win was no fluke and take down NE10 preseason favorite New Haven in an underrated rivalry.
Your picks are due at 7:00 PM on Friday, Sept. 13 - Good luck!
