Former New Haven coach Darren Rizzi was named interim head coach of the Saints. He was New Haven’s defensive coordinator in the 1997 national runner-up season and the Chargers’ head coach from 1999-2001, going 15-14 in a time when the university was pulling support for football. His 2001 team beat nationally ranked FCS Villanova in what might be the program’s greatest win. He is thought of as one of the best special teams coaches in the NFL. Congratulations!
