So, what do we have in this rematch from the beginning of the season? OK as much as I would like to pick our Chargers to win this game, I just don't see it happening. New Haven running game is good and our run defense is good, but all this is not gonna be enough to win this game against one of the best offenses and one of the hard hitting defenses in the region.

So, what’s New Haven got going for them?
1. Defense - Second in the country in rushing yards allowed, 18th in tackles for loss, FIRST in sacks, and 19th in points allowed.
2. Ground game - 238 yards per game is 10th in the country.
3. The defense didn’t do that bad the first time they played Slippery Rock - they gave up 284 yards.
3. Experience - Fourth straight playoff appearance and fifth in six seasons, so they have to win at some point, right?
What don't they have going for them?
1. Pass defense - They only gave up 128 yards to SR the first time, but they got hammered by FP and Bentley for over 400 yards in following weeks.
2. Pass offense - Chargers completed 16 of 40 passes for 150 yards, 1 TD, and 2 picks the first time they played. We all know if they have to throw it a lot, they are cooked.
Can the Chargers win? Sure they can, but they need to (in my opinion):
1. Get 200 rushing yards
2. Throw no more than 20-25 passes. More Menard likely means more turnovers. Probably means they’re behind too.
3. Get defensive pressure up front - Chargers didn’t get any sacks in the first game.
4. Limit big plays in the passing game, and maybe get a pick.
5. Don’t fall behind by more than 2 scores. Preferably, play from ahead so they can run it more.
Yep, won’t be near easy, but not impossible.Last edited by cwfenn; 11-19-2024, 05:46 PM.

This ROCK team is not as explosive as the one that put 59 on New Haven in playoffs. This ROCK team is more balanced and a grind it out team with runs and short passes. I understand the first meeting this year was a while ago, but let's not forget the yardage was about even, THE ROCK blocked a punt that led to a 15 yd TD drive and they also had a scoop and score on defense.
