  • New SCSU Football Coach

Interesting, it is May 1 and very little out of SCSU about a new head coach. In the winter the AD had all these forums to get a great candidate, yet it has remained very quiet. This can't be good for recruiting. Has anyone heard anything? Any potential candidates? Does anyone care?!

any and all info is appreciated!

Well I do care because I would like to see a head football coach for Southern. What was the main reason coach Godek "has come to a close" according to the current AD. Was the coach retired? Fired? Or found a different coaching position? It was not so clear why. It has been over three months now since the announcement? And no result of whom the next coach is going to be.

I’ve checked around nearly weekly and still there is nothing. At this point they should just keep the interim guy for the season or make him permanent so the roster isn’t a complete disaster since it takes very little these days to convince a guy to transfer.

I’ve seen nothing about Godek too. Possible he’s retiring or taking time away before the next job. He’s class of 1988, so he’s probably around 60 now.

I've been checking on the status of the SCSU job almost daily. Honestly, its pretty sad that they don't have a coach in place yet. Removing Godek happened two months later than it should have and now they're still dragging out the search. It makes it look like this just isn't that important.

SC just refuses to devote time and capital to the football program. What a shame, it has such a strong history. However, the current administration could care less. Compare that to UNH, who is now going D1.

Not sure how SC can be making any recruiting noise, being that they are still looking for the head coach. The whole state of affairs is truly depressing!

Just announced on social media....Joe Loth is new head football coach. Mr. Loth is from D3 Western Connecticut State....he did have a good record at Western, but I was hoping for a bit more. I will keep an open mind in fairness to him.

I don't think it's a bad hire, especially considering WCSU was terrible when he got there and he ended up with a winning record. The disappointing part to me is that it took them so long just to hire someone from within the CSCU system. Not exactly the "national search" that they said would happen. That being said, someone like a lower-tier D1 assistant or a up-and-coming D2 assistant would have probably moved the needle more.

The CSCU system in general has been struggling for a while now, even back when I was teaching for it many years ago. Going to miss the SCSU games with the move to D1, they were always tough ones even if the football rivalry was one-sided. I was at the 1998 game that the Owls won, and for a regular season game it was one of the most intense games I have seen. Hoping the Owls can right the ship and represent the city in the playoffs again, since it was an SCSU grad in Chris Palmer who was there when New Haven was just starting to get good back in the 80's.

Exactly, would have been nice for their to be a reason the search took so long... I thought maybe Jeff Stoutland of the Eagles would be coming back home to coach (Though, I knew there is no way we could afford him). That would have been huge! All this time, right in the middle of the recruiting period for this....
