2 transfers are making an immediate impact during Spring practice. QB Charlie McKee comes from Stony Brook where he appeared in 5 games, and made 4 starts in his Freshman season. He's already pushing Sean McTaggart and Aaron Tobias, both of whom saw action last year for the Warriors. The other eye-opener has been WR Randy Fizer from Wagner. Fizer has allowed ESU to put John Siggins in the slot, where he'll be a mismatch problem for LBs and Safeties.

The RB room is stocked with 2 returners, Tyriq Lewis and Tahir Mills. Mason Peterson will get a chance this Spring after red-shirting last Fall.
TE Dawson Stuart returns after a season-ending injury last Fall. He's already the leader of that group, but Jonathan Post also returns, giving Warrior QBs another big target.
Beau Heyser surprised some folks last year at the TE spot, but he moves to FB this year, giving ESU a real pass-catching option at that spot.

The biggest question will be the Offensive line. Tim Kinney suffered an injury last year, and the Warriors are hopeful he can return this Fall.

On the Defensive side of the ball, End Deshawn McCarthy will return for his final season, looking to become the ESU career Sacks leader. He currently has 25, the record is 33.
LB Paul Carreras is also rehabbing a Fall injury but will be fine for the Fall season.

The Warriors are very talented, but also very young. That can bring lots of ups and downs during a season. Can't wait until the Fall!!

The Spring Game has changed in the last couple of years. The format is much different, and I'm not sure what we'll really learn, but I'll do my best!

Mother Nature had different plans tonight and the Spring Scrimmage was moved indoors to Koehler Fieldhouse. It was more of a celebration for incoming President Kenneth Long. We'll have to wait until August 31st to see the 2023 edition of the Warriors. I for one can't wait!!

          Spring Game Notes

At the end of last season, ESU had plenty of question marks. Who would replace Jake Cirillo as the starting QB? This Spring I saw 3 QBs who can all command the field. Aaron Tobias had the best throw of the night, a 48-yard touchdown. Charlie McKee and Sean McTaggart both threw well.

Who would step up to be the big play Receivers the Warriors have had in their best seasons? Wagner Transfer WR Randy Fizer used his speed to get behind the defense on the 48-yard pass from Tobias. He'll be a great addition to a very deep group. Justin Cook, John Siggins. Benny Pembleton, Tyrese Brandon, Evan Roche, Devin Demoe and Bryce Bashore will all see time at WR. They can all make plays, and provide matchup problems all over the field.

At RB, ESU had 5 TBs run the ball last night. Tyriq Lewis and Tahir Mills led the Warrior RB corp and have 3 guys behind them that will all get opportunities. Mason Peterson and Deante Crawford ran well, and Matt Frame scored a goal-line TD, and could easily fill that role in the Fall.

TEs Dawson Stuart and Jonathan Post lead a deep group at that position. Beau Heyser, Andrew Krawczyk and Roarke Colligan provide depth, and give the Warrior offense plenty of options at TE.

The skill position set is as deep as it's ever been.

The O-Line has the potential to return all 5 starters, provided they can stay healthy. There are also at least 2 or 3 others who will push for playing time. That's something ESU hasn't had in many years. Again, depth is the buzzword.

On Defense, Desean McCarthy, Ryan Heiber, Daryn Blackwell Desean Dixon and Albert Gayle return on the line.

LBs Serge Felizor, Matthew Davis and Paul Carreras will anchor that corps.

The Defensive backfield will be led by Adewale Obayanju, Devon Banks, C J Lavarin and Noah Hambrick. Ryan Blass and Nick Davanzo impressed in the scrimmage, and add depth in that group.

On special teams, Devin Bartholomew saw double duty as PK and P. He had 2 really good punts, and was 2-2 on PATs, but missed his only FG attempt of the night.

This team is talented and deep, but also young. We'll see how it all comes together in the Fall.
