Athletics
The Ad Hoc Committee on Budget Sustainability recommended “that Athletics adjust their
budget by $350,000 either through reducing E&G expenses and/or increasing E&G revenues.”
The Athletic Director has made the commitment to increase revenue by approximately $350,000
through increased recruitment efforts and adjustment of roster sizes for several sports.
In addition, the Athletic Director will reduce the Athletics draw on the E&G budget by $200,000,
by either reducing expenditures or replacing E&G funding with increased external revenue

I hope this goes well for Delta State University.

The current president is doing what he has to do to save the university after years of mismanagement and declining enrollment.

Some programs are being cut, while others are consolidating.

I think D2 schools are in for a massive reset. Enrollments at most are falling and I'm not sure where the bottom is. It might get ugly. Several reasons:

• The number of 18-year-olds is declining slightly
• Smaller percentage of 18-year-olds are interested in attending college than pre-COVID
• College curriculums are often online-only, which means a huge number of new competitors. "Race to the bottom" in terms of price. That means less income to the schools, and less funds for extracurriculars.

Schools that are not within an hour's drive of a large, growing Metropolitan Service Area are particularly vulnerable. Interesting times.
