That’s an interesting move. I didn’t even realize it was on the radar.

I wish Scott Cochran the best in his new coaching position. So did he accept the job after being given a written guarantee that the team would finish no lower than 4th in the conference this coming year? 😉

My thoughts as an alum, fan, native of Ltown and sometimes donor.

He is definitely the biggest name hire UWA has ever had that I know of. The only one that comes even remotely close is Coach Mickey Andrews who was HC in '71 and won a NAIA Natty, but I'm not sure Coach Andrews was a big name then. I don't think he really got noticed on the national level until he became a DC for Bobby Bowden at FSU and they started to win a few Nattys. Here are my positives and I won't say negatives, just concerns.

            Positives
            1. He worked for and learned under the GOAT aka Nick Saban and GOAT Jr. aka Kirby Smart.
            2. His attitude and hype and energy is above the majority of coaches. He sort of reminds me of Coach Hall in a way, times 10 when related to energy level, and Coach Hall was already high up there.
            3. With his network that he has built over the years, he should be able to assemble a Who's Who staff when compared to other D2 schools.
            4. He is a prime example of going thru adversity. How many people do you know of who have addictions or major problems in their lives and open up to it, even privately? Not many. It's because of most people are prideful and consider it to be weak to own up to a problem we are having. Not 'CoachYeah" (his twitter/X handle).

            Concerns
            1. He has never been a HC, OC, or DC, just a Special Teams Coordinator and a Strength & Conditioning Coach. So I worry about the X's and O's, but more importantly, managing your team during a game say against VSU or DSU or UWF or a Playoff Team.
            2. Recruiting. I don't even know what that looks like today especially at D2 level. Can he do it though?
            3. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't worried about the major adversity he has experienced, if that could come back or have an effect on him and the team. I'm praying for him now and going forward. Luckily, there isn't a lot of stress that I am aware of in Ltown being a HC at a sport. Rarely is it a 3 year and your out if you haven't won a championship. Historically, it has been 10 years and a couple of 0-11 seasons for your contract not to be renewed.

2025 should be exciting for UWA and Coach Yeah.

Bobby Wallace was a bigger name hire than Mickey Andrews of Scott Cochran.

Geez Louise RO, how on earth did I forget about Coach Wallace. Your right definitely on being a bigger name then Coach Andrews. I’m not sure about Coach Cochran and hear me out on this. When I say big name, I mean most people anywhere knowing who that individual was at the time of the hire. Coach Wallace definitely has accomplished way more, but name recognition, I’m not sure. I could be wrong. He was D2 UNA and won 3 nattys there, recruited Bo and HC at Temple. So outside of Alabama and NJ at the time of his hire, did a lot of people across the country know or recognized his name. I guess maybe the same could be said about Coach C, so I could be off on this argument big time. We at UWA do have a lot that we owe to Coach Wallace though. Personally I think if we ever build a statue of a coach it should be for him. He brought us out of the lions den of D2, and made us relevant again and for the most part we have stayed relevant. Of course playing against great teams year in and year out like DSU, VSU and UWF and even those that left us Tuna and the Braves helped us as well. Again I hope Coach C the best.

To me, this seems like the kind of staff a D2 kid would really want to play for! I don't know of any other FCS or D2 staff with this much pro firepower. I'm eager to see how the season goes!
