Unless some rules governing the money payouts to college students Is brought under control and properly enforced you will not like the results in a few years. I believe some schools will have to disband athletics if a pay to play over and above their scholarship is mandated.

MaxPreps High School National Player of Year Reidsville Kendre Harrison, rising Junior, has just applied to attend private school Providence Day in Charlotte, according to the Charlotte Observer.
Want to guess the reason? Not exposure, he has multiple scholarship offers for both football and basketball.
NIL
NIL's in North Carolina is not allowed for public schools but the Private School governing body has voted to allow NIL's for their students. Also, allowed is providing living arrangements and meal support.Last edited by BearFan1; 06-22-2024, 06:57 AM.

We have a new generation driven by greed, and they don't mind destroying tradition along with the golden goose which gave so many people the tools and opportunity for long term success by attending institutions of higher learning. If things keep heading in the direction it's going, a lot ofcollege football stadiums will just be relic's of the past (the better good ole days). Enjoy the game while you can.

I don't disagree that greed is a major driving factor, but blaming it solely on the youngest generation is false. Coaches and administrations are also greedy, as are the conferences and most of those folks are older.

I do not think the blame is or should be laid at the feet of the 15 to 22 year old's. They are not the ones offering, or attempting to profit from, the NIL's or that have been offering or accepting (in some cases) 7 figure coaching or administration deals. They are not the ones raising hundreds of millions of dollars to build stadiums and arenas. They are not the ones paying hundreds of dollars (in some cases) for admission tickets to see these young people play the games.
And understand, I am not saying any of that is wrong.
But in many cases, certainly not all but many, the people playing the game actually do not have the means to eat if not for the meals being provided; do not have the means buy clothes; to meet the basic needs of living.
When Lenoir Rhyne made the call for the new stadium renovations I set forward to help to the degree I could, I am a Club Club Member, I sit in the reserved stadium seats, etc so I am not throwing stones at everybody else. I am included to a degree.
My only point is that some of the rules of the NCAA are just plain wrong. And have been for decades.
And yes, the difference in the Power Five D1 programs and the D2 schools almost immeasurable. But I would submit that the difference between the LR's and the Livingstone's, the Chowan's, etc is just as great, relatively.
Surely, somewhere there is a workable solution.
If not, boy oh boy, are we a sorry society.
