  • Newberry vs. UVA Wise

UVA Wise comes to the Graveyard! Though Wise is undefeated, they have struggled this year on defense giving up big pass plays. Because of their inability to defend the pass consistentely, I believe Reed Charpia will have another big day throwing the ball.

    Newberry 35- UVA Wise 21

I'll play devils advocate for fun. I picked Newberry.

They've given up some big pass plays yes. But against D1 ETSU and Preston Brown at Catawba. Brown is probably the 2nd best passing QB in the conference. So that kinda matters.

Would be like me saying run the ball, because Newberry gives up tons of yards....they played Keiser and Valdosta🤷

Both have played a challenging schedule to this point. My rebuttal to your thoughts would be Newberry had averaged giving up 200 rushing yards per game. Whereas UVA has surrendered almost 300 yards per game through the air. Looking at these averages, I think Newberry will be more successful throwing the ball than UVA will be running the ball. Either way, we will find out soon enough.

Maybe! Newberry doesn't have power on campus last I was told.

More important than football. Hope everybody is safe.

I’ll be surprised if they are able to play tonight. The city of Newberry sustained a lot of damage from the storm.

They are now saying the game with UVA Wise has been cancelled due to the damage in the Newberry area due to the tropical storm.

Damage around campus is pretty severe still. The corner of Evans and Luther has still not been dealt with (as of 8:30 am this morning). There are downed trees and snapped power lines all over the area.

I'm glad they won't be playing this game. Stinks that it's canceled and not postponed, but I get it. I've not had power at our house since 5:45ish am yesterday. Best estimate I've seen is that it could be Wednesday before we get full power restored to the area. And that is just guessing by the community, no official word from power companies.

Are you guys who posted in the Newberry area ok?

As I said on Twitter and facebook, if anyone needs somewhere to go and can get here, our house is open.

We don't have power (I live about half a mile from campus), but we do have hot water (gas water heaters for the win!).

Most of my neighbors are good, a bit of damage to some homes for them, but nothing extensive. There are a few who have major property issues around town. Crashed roofs, damaged cars, and a friend whose uncle's house literally fell in from a microburst.

A part from that it seems as if many are OK. Our area, unfortunately, might be the last to receive power because it has the most extensive damage.

Wish we could have figured out a way to get this game in. Could hurt our chances in the conference and playoffs later on in the season.
