Serious question, are you new to following GAC? I ask only because the idea that the OK schools might leave has basically been an ongoing topic for at least a couple of years now, below are some links to get you caught up on the chatter. FWIW, the talk on the street and from some sources I spoke with said the only reason it did not happen had more to do with UCO wanting to stay in the MIAA, than any sense of loyalty to the AR schools as is presented in the first article.

Here's the article that started the discussion: https://newsok.com/article/5514238/o...r-conferences?

Here's a thread that was started back in 2016, based off that article: http://www.d2football.com/forum/showthread.php?t=82485

Here's a second article that gave an update, that last one I'm aware of, on the potential OIC: https://newsok.com/article/5545610/s...ii-conference?

I hate to correct a fellow Harding fan, but I do believe the correct number is 11 straight wins over SAU prior to last year's hiccup. Just sayin'...

Nope, SAU Alumni. I'm only 24 and have been following for the past 4 or 5 years. Yes I know that the GAC is ARK heavey when it comes to success in Football, but if you look in Baseball or Basketball they have been competitive.

Of course, all good points. The big thing is costs. The GAC was formed simply because it saves money and provides better fan experience with shorter drive for away games. I think if you loose the Oklahoma Schools (including the ones in the MIAA), the GAC would break apart and you would find a new conference being created or the Arkansas Schools would have to disperse into the GSC, MIAA, and other conferences.

The reasons I listed drove the formation of the GAC...fan experience had nothing to do with it.

You're right if the GAC were to lose their OK schools the AR schools would be in trouble. Should it happen, I'm not sure why the AR would form a new conference, as opposed to keeping the GAC name and adding another four members. As for dispersing to other conferences, realistically I think the GSC would be the landing spot.

Let's be honest here. Ouachita's 2011 conference title was won on a technicality due to the fact that it was a transition year and not everyone played every conference opponent. Henderson, who came in second, didn't play enough conference games to qualify for the championship; HSU beat OBU in the head-to-head.

I'll give you the 2014 title outright; Kiehl Frazier led Ouachita to some pretty impressive conference wins that year.

And last year? If Harding had beaten either Henderson or SNU (both of which we should have), Harding, not Ouachita, would've been the conference champ since HU beat OBU head-to-head.

As for the playoffs, I'm sure I'm not the only person who remembers the 2012 & 2014 Minnesota State teams, or the 2015 & 2016 Shepherd teams. They all made deep playoff runs, yet none won a national championship. How many D2 football fans would say Minnesota State or Shepherd are not national players?

Or let me phrase it this way: how many people consider conference champs to be national players who go to the playoffs and are consistently one-and-done?

That "junior high" offense ran for 348 yards (6.1 average yards per carry) and delivered 4 rushing touchdowns against Ouachita last year. So what does that make the Ouachita defense...pee wee league? :smile-big:

I'll say that you've definitely got good teams in softball and baseball, but we did beat you in baseball this year and softball last year. :) Basketball has been more of an even split the past couple years. My grandfather played basketball for SAU, so I've always had a bit of a softspot for the Muleriders...except when they play Harding! :smile-big:

If you guys could win a playoff game, even with an sec transfer qb, maybe somebody would show you guys any kind of respect. Henderson and HU will be back to place you back where you belong, little brother.

Something is telling me that Henderson will be giving you guys an L to begin the season.
