    Re: Indy Offseason

Indy didn't really do anything bad this past season, but they did 1 thing better than anything... run the football. Of course they played very good defense as well.... especially pass defense (no. 1).

Looking ahead towards next year... the Hounds return 2 of the top RBs in the conference and 3 of 5 all conference OL. They return 95% of their rushing production from last year. The running game is going to be okay. There are some questions elsewhere however, especially considering the retirement of legendary Greyhound coach Bartolomeo. While coach Keevers is an internal hire, you never really know how the absence of a legendary presence like that will affect you players.

At this point though, it's nitpicking with the Hounds considering their recent success. They return 11 all conference players and will be riding the momentum of finishing no. 11 in the final D2 football polls.

In the GLVC right now..... it's the Greyhound's world and we're just living in it.

      Re: Indy Offseason

I did find a couple of other U Indy early commits..... not signings because I think these are HS guys.

      Joh Eineman- WR
Long lanky receiver at 6'4", 185 lbs. Seems to have pretty reliable hands catching the ball away from the body and has deceptive speed with those long strides. Doesn't really have enough on hudl to judge leaping ability, catch in traffic, route running, etc. Will be a pretty good development
      https://www.hudl.com/profile/2437636/Jon-Eineman

      Other is Austin Helm- LB
Decent size as a freshman at 6'1" and 200ish pounds. He attacks the ball well, reacts quickly in terms of play recognition, and finishes tackles.... granted this is all highlight film not game film. So I may be way off, lol!

U Indy lands a RB out of Cincinnati, OH.

        https://www.hudl.com/video/3/6741162...27b90f3099bb41

Pretty good size at 6'2", 205 lbs.

        Judging highlights only....

Pretty good vision for the hole. Hits 5th gear pretty quickly; good not great top end speed. Finishes runs with leverage and physicality.

Good pick up for the hounds.

          Re: Indy Offseason

Indy picked up another Commit from DT Dylan Shelton from Frankfort Illinois.

          Highlights....

          https://www.hudl.com/video/3/5681407...7bef0a344bd226

Looks to be more of a playmaker type DT vs. a big clogging disruptive type DT. (think Aaron Donald/Warren Sapp vs. Booger McFarland/Vince Wilfork).

He's listed at 6'1", 230 lbs. His shorter stature vs. OL probably will be a benefit as he likes engage a little bit high to take advantage of his ability to read and react to the play and shed blocks quickly. Many times you see DT highlight films and it's apparent they're the beneficiary of timely called stunts and slants. Most of Shelton's plays seem to be a result of shedding blocks and using outstanding closing speed to chase down the ball carrier.

I'll try not to make this comparison too much, but it's natural considering it's all I've known for the past 5 or so years, but if he were headed into the MIAA conference, I'd be concerned about him being able to endure the physicality over an 11 game stretch while playing DT. He'd be facing road graters on a week in and out basis that hoover around 300lbs. Looks like he did play some DE in HS, which is where he'd probably end up in the MIAA. Not sure about the GLVC yet though. I just haven't had enough exposure.

According to his twitter, he also had offers from UTPB and Adams state.

Good pick up by the hounds. Doesn't seem like the change in coaching staff is slowing them down much on the recruiting trail.

            Re: Indy Offseason

Shelton undersized as far as height. He'll put on the bulk in time. U Indy has gone small on the DL and OL lately. Assume they're looking to make it up with athletes like Kelley did at GV in 90s. Bart did mention this year or last that they needed a few big DTs to plug things up. Two DTs on last year's frosh class fit that need. OL has been scrambling to patch holes the last few years. DL concern has been depth with backups that drop off too far. Most privates look to be sound end to end for the first crew - building depth is what's hard. Not sure how NDC and Ouachita got it done last year. A "football first" mentality with the admin likely.

Thanks for all the off season team reports!

              Another commit for UIndy....

              Ricardo Rocha- LB/RB, 6'0", 200 lbs

              Elkhart, IN

              http://www.hudl.com/profile/4711211/Ricardo-Rocha

His highlights demonstrate that this kid pretty much does everything well. Runs the ball, catches the ball, blitzes, pursuit, etc.

I'm guessing that he'll play LB for the Hounds as that's where the majority of his highlights come from. I could be off on this, as I don't know their M.O. yet... but for brevity's sake, I'll go with giving opinion on his LB highlights.

Again.... these are highlights, not game film. So everything is going to look great... that being said this kid looks great.

Nothing stands out as far as eye popping athleticism or physicality, but the guy just makes the plays he needs to. My feeling watching his highlights is that this is the kind of scrappy coachable kid you want on your team because he helps you win games flat out. Every single stunt and read seemed to be executed with precision and maximizing his athletic ability. He's a HS commit, so he'll have time to add onto his more than adequate 6'0" frame so that he can match up and endure the wear and tear of college football.

Another nice pick up for the hounds.

U Indy RB McKellar nabs an All American honor as well.

Anyone here old enough to remember Natron Means? :)

                    .
I'm assuming they'll play him at H-Back. If so, I'd love to see them work an H-Back into the offense with some carries and catches. Thanks again for all the updates and lists of guys committing.

                      Really?

I haven't watched the Hound's offense close enough to see how they utilize their personnel. I figured with both stud RBs coming back, they'd look to utilize his talents on the defensive side.
