Interesting times for U Indy. New HC Keevers promoted within from defensive coordinator. He'll continue to work at it as hard as Bart did. New D Coordinator Cooper from U of Pitt that was the Quality Control guy at IU and Pitt. Schedule starting off with a bang. Top tier teams from the GLIAC and GMAC in Ashland and Hillsdale. Lots of young guys gonna be counted on this year. Gonna find out how good we'll be the next few years right away. Here's my take with just about three months to go until the 2019 season:
Worry spot is the young O Line. I was right about their All American Center leaving early. Believe he had a year of eligibility left but graduated so moving on. I was really hoping he'd stick around another year. I always think about all the guys that later dream of playing just one more year. Have a couple quick tackles so now they'll probably move a tackle to center. Also they lost 3-4 young O linemen leaving the program over a year. Hoping they went out and found a transfer like they did two years ago but Keevers commented they'll stick with inside development instead of D1 transfers.
Strong spot is the experienced D Line. Three of the four starters are big names in Indiana. Other lineman will be young or undersized but those three are very good. Don't care for how they rotate "guys they can use" on the d line but might see something different from the new coordinator. Gotta find an inside LB and two DBs. Getting some depth back at DB. Might see some repositioning here. Thought they struggled at CB last year.
QB is a big question this year. Guy with the most experience played two years ago which was the only year they haven't won their conference. Have a young gun slinger that's probably gonna get a shot. A handful of competent and reliable receivers, a big TE transfer from Eastern and at least H-Backs with some experience. RB is the strong area with two of the best combo I've seen. Their skilled WRs/RBs are also prolific return specialists. U Indy gonna be a threat whenever they get those skilled guys loose. Also even though they had a couple guys poached by D1s I really liked the incoming class they picked up.
