I have a hard time comprehending QU's statement that says: "We didn't get any competitive advantage from this." but yet they're being forced to vacate victories and coaches can't count the wins, etc. So, if ineligible athletes played, how does that not give you a competitive advantage?

"No competitive advantage" maybe refers to the fact that most of the ineligible athletes were on teams that didn't win any championships or qualify for the NCAA tournament. But during the period in question, Quincy did win a GLVC baseball title (2023). They also just won the GLVC women's basketball title (2025) but it looks like these problems came before that.

Do schools self report their violations because they're in more hot water when it leaks out?? That's what we were told about NAIA Marian self reporting their misdoing this year - rather than trying to cover it up. Seems the announcement always comes with a statement about their integrity for reporting and how it wasn't a big deal anyway.

Self-reporting doesn't always lead to a lighter penalty, but it does give the reporting school the luxury of spinning the story to try to minimize it, and the opportunity to reassure everyone of their integrity.

Waiting to get busted always leads to a lot of bad blood within a conference and has a longer-term impact on the athletic reputation of the institution, and on the reputations of the people involved (president, AD, coaches, etc.)

This many violations forces you to report to change the culture of the department… ncaa amateurism and eligibility center certification starts with the coaches

obviously the ad and far we’re not helping compliance in holding coaches responsible to help with the simple stuff

Meh. The spin is mainly to pacify donors, and keep from running them off.
