I place full blame on NW for dropping the ball.
UCM lost 2 games last year by a combined 2 points including to the eventual national champion. They don't play anyone until Oct 12th then get MW at home.
They do have to go on the road to NW and Pitt this year and ESU late in the year in what could be a sneaky game.

The Mule is proving harder to keep down these days. It wasn't that long ago that the Griffs did their part to keep the Mule down consistently. JP had like a 10+ win streak going against the Mules, but we haven't beaten them in the past 4 meetings if I remember correctly. It's been neck and neck just about every game though. Definitely an exciting matchup every season. Seems to be that the biggest problem is that we haven't been able to slow down their otherworldly passing attack enough in recent seasons.

Whether Wright can right the leaky U.S.S Bearcat will certainly be a major storyline this season. As several NW posters have lamented, the trendline of Bearcat football has definitely been heading in the wrong direction the past several seasons. Not that anyone needs reminding, but over the past three seasons the Bearcats have posted descending records of 11-2 (2021), 10-3 (2022), and 7-4 (2023). While two of those seasons would have been banner years for most programs across the D2 nation, the standard at NW is such that Wright is on a warm seat heading into what may be a pivotal season for Wright's tenure in Maryville.

That last part has been hard for everyone. That O is definitely good.
Pitt and Harding had 2 of the better pass D's in D2 last season and still gave up lots of points to the mules.

His seat isn't even luke warm. Can't say the same for some of his assistants.

If the current trend continues as a Pitt fan I hope you're right, but I think NW is spoiled and enough money will demand change from the top
At this point, there's no external heat that I've heard. I know RW well enough that if there's any heat, it's by his own doing because of his competetive nature. I'm sure he's not happy with the current state of affairs. However, another 7-4 season and missed PO, then maybe there's some external heat for a change.
As for the Mooles, anything short of a national championship this year is a disappointment, IMO. So the only thing keeping them down this year is themselves (and maybe Pitt St).

I disagree about the Mules. If their defense is slightly below mediocre like last year, someone will beat them in the playoffs.

Sometimes silence is more telling...after the Emporia Game, the big money guys I know didn't come to any more games and they usually are at most if not all games. Time will tell.
