  • Early season schedule strength

User Argonut is putting together a system to rate team’s early season schedule strength as a possible metric to determine national title contenders. It’s in this thread:

    https://www.d2football.com/forum/for...lty#post824813

Bad news for LSC fans is that he has already red-flagged two LSC teams as having too difficult a schedule to warrant title contention - Western Oregon and WTAM. He says Western Oregon has the most brutal schedule out of anyone.

Yeah thats a little misleading because Western Oregon is playing two FCS teams out of necessity to fill out a schedule and probably money games for their athletic department.

Those games wont count towards any D2 SOS and they aren't going to be title contenders anyways with only 9 D2 games.

We saw how Central Washington fans and players were puckering about getting that last playoff spot scheduling a NAIA and FCS school last year after only suffering one D2 regular season loss the last game of the year.

WTAM - yeah - but pulling from Mines SOS when they are going 12-0 and also beating Grand Valley helps WT out a great deal.

WT and Western Oregon's issue is finishing in the top half of the LSC, much less thinking playoff dreams.

WOU is smart in scheduling those "body bag" games for the boost in the budget numbers. I'm not sure if WOU has scheduled for league titles or playoff consideration in years.

        Agree.

Not trying to poo-poo what Argonaut has put together because its a lot of work and very interesting but it doesnt take a rocket scientist to state that most if not all the LSC, NE 10, and SIAC schools are not going to sniff any national championship opportunities especially with the tough regions and reseeding system in the semi final round.

MIAA is turning into a cupcake conference. I watched their YouTube video whining about the Regional alignment not being fair.

MIAA top to bottom is stronger than the LSC and has been for a long time.

We can ask Angelo State about that after their two road games this fall.
