This happens in every NCAA championship for team sports. Auto bids ensure this.

I have no problem with auto bids for conference champions in any sport, football included. My issue is the even distribution of at large bids for each region. Often, the 9th best team in a loaded region that gets left out is better than many at large teams from weaker regions.

Western wouldn't be ahead of Angelo in this year's playoff if KPI was the sole deciding factor, that's why I'm confused by them being left out of the hypothetical situation but Angelo being in.

You're not always morose, just in this case. CWU was a couple plays away from beating WCU. Heck, CWU was two plays away from having a perfect D2 record in the regular season. Just because WT struggled, doesn't mean the whole LSC is crap. There's a good chance that no MIAA team will be left in the playoffs after Saturday. Does that mean they suck too?
