  • Off Topic: Former West Texas A&M QB named Oklahoma Offensive Coordinator

Congrats to Ben Arbuckle for becoming the new offensive coordinator at OU.

Canadian High, WTAMU QB Ben Arbuckle set to be Oklahoma OC

Best of luck unless playing Texas.

I'm not sure OU has the cash to play the pro football game.

The facts are a bit off in the article. Nesbitt is the one who started Ben. When Hughes arrived he announced that the existing WT QBs Ben and Ethan Brinkley were not up to his standards. Brinkley quit the team in the spring, but Ben continued for a year playing sporadically while Hughes ridiculed him for being unable to take a snap from center without tripping over his own feet (this was untrue). Ben mainly warmed the bench while Hughes started Houghtaling, who was neither a good runner nor a good passer. After a year of Hughes Ben quit the team.

I thought he was a very good QB and I’m really happy for his success as a coach! I don’t watch much D1 football but if OU is on I’ll check them out.

A meteoric rise up the coaching ranks, if there ever was one. BTW, is Hughes still in the coaching biz?

Yep he is still listed on the FCS Idaho Vandals roster as a sams/nickels coach.

Hunter Hughes - Football Coach - University of Idaho Athletics

Idaho hosts a 2nd round playoff game this weekend and likely gets top seeded Montana State in the third round with a win.

I never realized he was the head equipment manager in college
