Ok what happened to WT men’s basketball? Two years in a row complete mid season collapse. 8-7 in LSC.

    Recruiting. Plain and simple.

No big man to match up with. No portal transfers. Relying on true freshmen (even talented ones) and a couple jucos isn't cutting it. The Australian experiment imploded. There is some NIL money floating around among a few LSC schools. WT has none.

Tom and Chris have not suddenly forgot how to scheme and coach. They just don't have the horses to pull the wagon. Better players win games. They have to recruit better. They know it.

I honestly do not get how WT has no NIL money floating around.

Is the BAC not active in this sort of thing? Have the big time donors either cut WT off (Carthel pi$$ off) or passed on?

I dont expect WT to pull Trinidad Chambliss or Cooper Flagg but surely there are some connections out there.

Its humorous to a point that 20 years ago WT could magically attract D1 NFL caliber talent on campus (within the rules?) and now they struggle in both sports to make the playoffs when there is NIL and money pathways now.

Seems they start the season strong. Ranked high and winning against great competition and then after Christmas they can’t beat middle of the road LSC teams.

We need a big that can play. Think Ryan Quaid. Teams scheme to shut down the perimeter and don't have to worry about the paint.

Any other WT alumnus tired of being told that WT is a premier D2 school that wants to remain D2 and win championships only to be mediocre at the high profile sports? If there were a trophy for doing less with more WT wins.

Yes. I will say if Lynn cant make the playoffs this year with all the coaching changes and transfer portal losses at the top of the conference, its time to go a different direction.

Mid way through football season we start talking basketball, mid way through basketball we start talking softball. Our athletics program are mediocre and underperforming.

Its starts at the top just like the Dallas Cowboys issues the last 30 years.

WT men are 17-9, disappointing based on Tom Browns 85% win rate. WT women are 22-3 and #8 nationally ranked. Softball is 12-2 and was a pre-season top 5 rank. Not "mediocre" by any standard. Football went 8-4. T&F the usual top 10 or much better. Women's golf top 10. Men's golf made the NCAA's. If any programs are mediocre it's baseball and soccer.

Mediocre and underperforming? With up to 300 D2's competing in some of those sports, I don't think WT has a "mediocre" athletics program.

Men’s basketball is 9-7 in LSC. This isn’t the ACU, TAMUC, Tarelton and ICW LSC. That’s mediocre and tale of two seasons, before and after Christmas. The football team hasn’t been to the playoffs in over a decade. Yet, WT likes D2 because they like competing for championships? In golf?

They are usually in it for Volleyball and Softball but point taken.

I am pretty sure Wendler would point to East Texas A&M as the "I told you so" that this would happen instead of driving towards the Tarleton model.

Tarelton benefits from the Fort Worth campus but they are trendy school for Abilene/Midland Odessa since moving up.

                            That's interesting take.

Men's and women's golf, women's basketball, volleyball, indoor and outdoor track, softball. That's 8 out of the 13 teams. All of the eight are in the conference and national hunt most of the time. 95 percent of D2s would trade places with WT. Soccer is a bit mid. Men's basketball hasn't had ballers the last two years. Football was above mediocre last year. Too early to know anything on baseball.

If we are being honest here, I think most die hard WT fans would trade all the minor sports championship runs for football playoff success.
