How far we've fallen? LOL this isn't the Ivy League we're talking about...

100% agree on that. The reality is that they haven't had a consistently winning program since Rollie Greeno retired in 1991. They had some pretty good teams back in the 70's and 80's. Would the jump to D2 be a catalyst for change both in the community and in recruiting? That team starts winning a few games, that community will be out in force for sure.

And you aren't taking any team from NAIA without some expectation that the jump in level of competition comes with a jump in the level of play. Jamestown recruits nationally more than most NSIC schools do, so that is an advantage IMO.. they can recruit those same areas for a higher level of player.

        • NSIC should extend an invite to Morningside. Larger market and more impactful program, if not them perhaps Northwestern or St. Johns. Once again I say Tell SCSU offer football or take a hike!

Mankato not being ahead of Shep makes zero sense..given they have a common opponent and a similar record otherwise. Kato almost beats Mines..and Shep gets destroyed by them.
Yea, looking further at Massey, I have decided it's of little to no value for D2. I think the way that they try to aggregate data leads to strange results. There is SOME value in previous years results, but the lack of sufficient comparables (1 or 2 not being enough) leads to previous years results having too much relative value. I've had this conversation at the FBS and FCS level, and think it's a little different there because there are a lot more inter region non conference games, though honestly at those levels it's typically Sagarin I refer to not Massey, and even then, you don't build a poll off of it, you use it to check yourself.. In a way the FCS playoff committee should have done last year before letting 6 teams from the CAA in the year after their best team jumped to FBS. At the D2 level, comparing teams nationally is just much harder.

If Morningside would want to jump back to D2, that would be a great get. They left the NCC and D2 for NAIA years ago. Has something changed there that D2 is a fit again??

Exactly. Not every NAIA call up is going to be USF. They'll settle in eventually.

It's D2, and in the midwest no less. School comparisons are a moot point. If we were the SEC then maybe we can have that convo.

Without NDSU, SDSU and N. Colorado they can compete as they are in a metro area of around 150k. The NCC was a brutal conference to compete in. I believe they would add more than UJ easily. That's if they want to leave the GPAC where they dominate.

I think it was just a hypothetical. It would be hard to pry Morningside off the top of the NAIA mountain, if not impossible.

Unlike MSU, Morningside places a higher emphasis on winning as opposed to a slight bump in brand recognition (IMO)

I think the reason they don't come up in convo very much is because it would be tough to wrangle them away from the GPAC. But I think most would agree they are the most ideal acquisition, hypothetically.

SCSU and UMC should have been kicked out. The byaws required football. yet they remain after dropping football.

I wish the NSIC would grow a spine and force football to be required again. Kick out Crookston, and SCSU already.

                          • Seems to be Jamestown is a decent addition. Town is good size, there is money in Dakota, and right in the footbrpint. Like 4 hours from Marshall - not bad at all - similar to Duluth and Bemdji.

They seems serious about sports too.

There will be challenges, but that is true in football for many schools.

I think the league needs to keep adding because eventually UMC will leave and so may Augie and Mankato. That may be a ways down the road, but it might very well happen

My law partner played for Jamestown in the 80s and they were good. He said was a great school to attend
