          Re: 2019 MIAA Baseball

Week 2 in the MIAA is in the books as everyone moved up the weekend schedule due to the white stuff expected (and around here received). Series sweeps for CentralMO(Northeastern), CentralOK(Northwest) & Emporia(Lindenwood). 2-1 series wins for Western(Southern), Baptist(Hays) & Washburn(Pitt). The standings after 2 weeks:

          1st @ 5-1 CentralMO & Western
          3nd @ 4-2 Emporia & Southern
          5th @ 3-3 CentralOK, Pitt, Baptist & Washburn
          9th @ 2-4 Lindenwood & Northwest
          11th @ 1-5 Hays & Northeastern

The MIAA website differs from the above but they have Washburn's series finale win on Saturday listed twice and don't list the game Pitt won in Friday's DH. I assume they will fix that by the time anyone reads this post.

            Week 3 is now completed. Series sweeps for Southern(Washburn) & Northwest(Baptist). 2-1 series wins for CentralOK(CentralMO), Emporia(Hays), Western(Northeastern) & Pitt(Lindenwood).

Oklahoma winning the battle of the Centrals leaves only Western not losing a series.
Hays & Northeastern are the only teams to have not won a series. Everyone else won a series in the first two weeks.

The MIAA website is frequently wrong on baseball. I had not posted my weekly summary because both Western & Washburn's websites say game 3 of the series is scheduled for 1pm this afternoon.

If the MIAA is going to give us 2 out of 3 who am I to argue?

Yes, the rubber game is this afternoon. First "home" series for the Griffons, but WU is the home team. Bods lead 1-0 in the 2nd.

Ft Hays was the first "Home" series for Western but they moved that series to Edmond and started the games on Sunday after CentralOK wrapped their home series with Southern.

Southern beat Northwest 7-6 tonight. I saw in the box score that Southern scored 7 runs with only 3 hits and had to check out how that happened. They scored 3 in the 5th and 4 in the 7th with a total of 1 hit in the 2 innings.

                        Southern 5th
                        walk
                        walk
                        strikeout
                        walk
                        strikeout
                        walk (rbi)
                        hit by pitch (rbi)
                        walk (rbi)
                        strikeout
3 runs in the inning and never put the ball in play.

                        Southern 7th
                        hit by pitch
                        walk
                        hit by pitch
                        fly out
                        walk (rbi)
                        strikeout
                        walk (rbi)
                        single (2 rbi)
                        fly out

                          Re: 2019 MIAA Baseball

                          MIAA week 5 is in the books. Sweeps for CentralOK(Pitt), Emporia(Baptist) & Northeastern(Hays). 2-1 series wins for CentralMO(Washburn), Lindenwood(Western) & Southern(Northwest).

The Northeastern sweep over Hays leaves only Hays, Pitt, Baptist & Washburn without an MIAA sweep. The CentralOK sweep over Pitt leaves only CentralMO, Emporia, Southern & Western not being swept in MIAA play.

Expect CentralOK to possibly keep moving up in the standings. They are currently tied for 4th but have played all 3 teams above them.

Anthony Castaneda tossed a complete game with 14 strikeouts in Western's 5-2 win over Lindenwood on Saturday to even the series. Not only is that not the best performance in the MIAA this weekend, it wasn't even the best performance in the series. Lindenwood's Blake Beckmann recorded his first win of the season on Sunday with a complete game 2 hit, 11 strikeout shutout. Beckmann faced only 29 batters in the game.

The conference race may be decided in the next two weeks, with Southern traveling to Emporia (unless it gets moved to Joplin) and then hosting Central Missouri ...

I just looked at CentralOK's schedule. They play Western this week and Lindenwood next week. The last 4 weeks they play Northeastern, Hays, Washburn & Baptist. If they are close to the top after week 7, look out. There is a good chance they are get quite a few wins during the last 4 weeks.

Week 6 is in the books. All 6 teams that won the first game of the series also won the second. Lindenwood(Hays) & Northwest(Washburn) completed the sweeps. CentralMO(Pitt), CentralOK(Western), Southern(Emporia) & Northeastern(Baptist) lost the final game.

Erik Webb of the Mules was held hit less for the first time this season. The streak ends at 28, 4 shy of Brayden Whitney's MIAA record 32 game streak in 1997 & 98. Webb did reach base by walk so he and Mason Janvrin have reached base safely in every game they have played this season. Janvrin's streak is at 42 games including the last 12 games last season.

Not much change at the top of the standings. Emporia & Western lost a game, Lindenwood & Northwest gained one.
